Wow, it's amazing to see her back in the roll she was built for. I started your channel back when you started X231 and was around in October 2018 when you went to help Sr. bring home # 5J1113. Looking back, who would have thought what would come of the Swamp Angle? It's been said many times before, you are on another level when it comes to being a mechanic. Your level of detail is second to none. Recently I have restarted watching the rebuild series, man how far the channel has come and how much potential the future has!

I can only imagine how satisfying it must be to re-apply 5J1113 to the sort of work it was built for, after everything you've been through to bring it to this stage. To me, this is a true restoration. It may not look "like new", but it sure as hell performs like new. It's been restored to it's purpose, if not its looks. Besides, the "patina" thing is kinda growing on me! Thank you, Squatch, for bringing us all along on this adventure.

@@squatch253 It goes to show that there isn't really a 'this thing isn't worth saving' point for most machines. As fucked up as 5j1113 was, the end result is priceless. That thing runs better now than it did when it had a warranty. No doubt in my mind you could put a farmhand on that thing and have it turn a profit working the fields again.

I had a pedal car tractor when I was a little kid and this is exactly what it felt to me then. I watch you not to build or operate my own but instead to see how a professional would do it if he was a good as you. A great treat to watch the rebirth of this wonderful piece of engineering and history. Long may it live again?

I love the restoration of 5j1113. I recently picked up a d2 with the serial numbers 5j123 on both the engine and rear end. I don't know if I'll ever get it going again but I couldn't just let it go to the scrappers for $100.

200-210 seems pretty warm for that era of diesel surprised they had thermostats over 190. Most seemed to be 160-180. Apparently it’s fine running that warm. Too bad you didn’t have more of a proper load for it. That disk looked like it belongs behind a farmall cub.😂

That popping noise is most likely related to the injector or plunger element. There is also a delivery valve on top of the plunger if I am correct and that can sometimes get stuck open delivering way too much fuel and can cause that pop. Of course I don't know where the delivery valve is on the CAT engines, but there has to be one...

Great to see D2 to doing what she do! 😎 I appreciate calling out the gears cuz I'm always curious. Such as the plowing videos which looks like they're plowing in 3rd gear as best I can remember those videos and watching this one. I read somewhere about six months ago online that Apollo has to be dragged at least 3 or 4 mph to ensure enough velocity across the moldboard to flip the soil over.

I remember my Grandpa's John Deere tractor, my aunt's Case tractors and an uncle's Allis Chalmers dozer he rebuilt himself in a single car garage. When I watch your videos, all the 'smells' come back to me... like dirt & grease, the smell of burnt fuel, heck sometimes the creosote smell of old oiled dirt roads. Thanks for sharing your videos. One last thing - the blow dry at the end of use? I do that for my riding lawn mower these days. See... Grandpa and my dad always, always taught (and enforced) the "Clean it up when you are done using it so it's clean for the next time." This also, of course, helped you to maintain the equipment as you could find things going wrong before they actually went wrong. 🙂

13:07 if you can score some second hand rubber thread belt from a junkyard or something, they make great mats to put on the deck so the metal don't chew the wood up. I managed to get a few good meters of coal factory belt a few years back, the good stuff that's 1 cm thick and it's excellent for this. Bonus, in the winter, none of the equipment slips anymore.
