Squatch is actually a museum curator. My favorite museum is his KZbin channel and. I love watching him preserve and share history. He makes it fun and educational and he teaches the importance of doing this the right way and paying attention to detail. Always takes pride in his work. The sincerest of thanks.

SO AWESOME, I know what its like to locate OEM original out of production peace parts, this is truly awesome, i can feel your excitement in your broadcast, I sure do hope that someone will take over the inventory located in California, I know in Aviation, the career I have been in now over 35 years, when inventory becomes obsolete and the value and demand dwindles, the parts are typically consolidated with an aftermarket or wholesale distribution center. With this being CAT Inventory for out of production parts, there has got to be someone interested in adding this inventory to the line.

I'm pretty sure you're going to miss that source once they've closed their doors for good. I wonder if someone has bought up their remaining stock. It'd be sad if it ends up in a scrap yard.

Thanks for taking the time to post some Cat content. Those rollers show Santa was good to you! I want to say again how valuable your demonstrations of attention to detail, research and patience are to this YT world where half-assery and "git-er-dun" make up the majority of the technical content. My sadness at Florin Tractor going away was renewed in this episode. Grew up near there and while I don't remember the business specifically (I wasn't into ag machinery then at all), I have '60s and early '70s memories of that area. I'm sure I drove by the place back in the day and whoever worked there heard my barely muffled 413 Mopar as I drove by.

As being born in the East Bay Area and living in Nevada County, Florin Cats was the Center of My Universe. For 20 years as an engineer in the fire department I drove my/our caterpillar powered fire engines there for service. @fowletm19922 жыл бұрын
Every track ever is torqued though the bolt, same as hundreds of other examples, but if you really want to do it "by the book" you'd torque the nut, one of those things that people that don't do alot of mechanical work them selves worry about

When pressure testing the oil manifold, you should be using fluid pressure, and not air pressure. We had a radiator guy that many times sent back a radiator that still leaked because he'd test with air pressure. I even got bit by that myself when testing a clutch pack. Air pressure seemed ok but fluid pressure revealed a cracked weld of the drum to the shaft. Just use your porta power pump and bring the pressure up a little higher than normal operating pressure.

Another way to block those oil ports in the filter base is to machine on the lathe a solid tapered seat with an external oring that drops down in the port.. Then the pipe seals against the solid taper and you're done. It's more work but doesn't require modifying the original part. Awesome seeing those track rollers.

Hay squatch nice to see your channel back glad to see you survived that nasty storm spring will keep those cats busy for awhile
@allanrichards37522 жыл бұрын
You got yourself a superb Xmas present with those return rollers, they even came with a matching patina. You should be able to get a sleeve for the damaged seal faces otherwise you will be asking al lot of the new seal to work against that groove. As for oil coolers they are not required for the modern oils on an engine like that. Modern oils work better at higher temperatures anyway so the cooler is probably working against you. A neat job in taking it out of circuit though.

Toby, do you have a 3/4 pipe die that you could thread down a pair of those plugs undersize so that they will fit in the undersize threaded holes, without needing to be thinned down? That thin-wall hex makes me a bit nervous about the ability to take it out 10 years in the future. (Yea, you could always drill and use an EZout, but...)

Tighten bolts from the head is not a problem if you plan for it. There are much bigger factors like the surface finish on the threads of the bolts and nuts. Also one of the biggest factors is the friction under the bolt or or nut. This it why bolts you really care about always use washers. Obviously they don't always use washers but you plan for it and expect more variations in the bolt tension on head tightened dirty washers surface bolts.
