Fixing the never ending diesel leaks, made some fender support brackets, and fixed the PTO. Discussed all the goodies that I got this week for the old cat.

Thanks for the reply, the cast radiator light brackets were cast front and back, the later small cats had fabricated steel light brackets. I have many Caterpillars, collected for 50 years, l have been looking for Larger Cat 22 lights for 25 years, l will be installing them on all my old Cats. They look great on the sides of the radiator and l don’t like them on the hood either. I live way up north in north west Canada. Good luck on your D-2, it’s a lot of fun isn’t it.

Cat 22 have the lights set up that way except they are a bit larger, they will look great that way.

Most D2’s have them on top, I just wanted to be different I guess. I have both lights on and working now It looks really cool. I am waiting for some light brackets to mount the rear lamps. The lamps are 35 watts, on high beam it uses both filaments, at 6 volts that is roughly 12amps per lamp. Four lamps on the tractor that’s 48 amps, hope my generator can keep up! Thanks for watching!!

I might have some names you don't know but then I don't know till I offer the ideas to you. A fellow named Silas, owns a wrecking yard in Kansas and he has lately run some videos of his scrapping a few of these plus I think he kept one or more. His channel is "Adventures made from Scratch"... warning is he won't be cheap cause he gets a lot of money out of them for scrap as prices are higher and that means death for these older machines. I forget the fellows name but his channel is Pacific Hillbilly. He found one on a forest service road, bought it and then took it down to every last nut and bolt because of the engine being bad, found the parts needed and he also knows sources for pieces and parts. His interest would be to be helpful in getting more of them saved. I haven't caught where you are located so its hard to kind of figure out locations you could look for these. Farmers used these tractors without blades to tow stuff with and use the winch for pulling stumps or just what needed pulled would be a better answer.Down in the Florida area is a fellow named Hank who runs a channel called Hamilton farms.... he goes out and finds equipment setting and gets them running. He is ex air force so dumb as a box of rocks but his heart is in the right place. I would guess that takes you from one coast to the other one.

Thanks for the reply! I have worked on all types of equipment over the years, and you start to figure out where to get your parts or parts machines. I’m in Southern Indiana, and for the most part there is not a lot of these around here. Now if I wanted a d6-d8 there’s lots of those but the d2 through d4 models are hiding. The coal mines are where the big ones were bought for and are hard to move so they stay put. The little ones are more mobile and can turn up anywhere. I think a d4 fuel tank is the same and it seems as they were more common with the fender tank. What gets me is that tank is pretty tough to dent, I wonder how they kept from ripping the fender off of the tractor? It must have been bolted on better at one point. Thanks for the leads!

@@Recommended_by_Fred I think that the one Silar kept was the little "10" which would fit in the back of a pickup. Your probably too late for the ones that I seen on his videos, it was like a last week video and he puts a couple a week out... The reason I mentioned Silas and his channel Adventures made from scratch was just because of this size machine. I agree that the say 4 and up are real common where as the little guys just don't pop up often.

I tore the the fuel pump back apart after this video and used a lapping stone on the body of the pump. Worked a few small high spots down where it was not sealing. Put it back together and no leaks at all, at full throttle it will almost peg the gauge. Squatch 253 knows his stuff, that’s for sure. The more this thing runs the better it runs! I don’t know how to get a hold of him, and I do respect others privacy.
