Last time we had a D336 in the shop was in the early 80's. Besides the scrapers and loaders they were in cabovers in the late 70's. The 340 fwhp wasn't enough power to pull the grapevine to L.A. as fast as bigger hp engines, i.e. the famous 1693. These engines wore the side of the big ends of the connecting rods.

On my service truck I'm running a hydraulic motor direct drive compressor much like your new one to a couple of air receiver tanks. The crane isn't used as often so it works off a diverter valve so I can power either compressor or crane. The crane doesn't need as much oil flow as the compressor so its oil runs through a flow regulator valve. On the rare occasion when I need both crane and air at the same time, the receiver tanks hold enough air for a couple of minutes use. I agree with you on the Cat hardware. I've never seen another manufacturer supply the tall bolt head and compact hard washers. And believe me, I've looked.
@Jpaydirt6 жыл бұрын
Do you use an oil cooler?
@princebatswater6 жыл бұрын
@@Jpaydirt No I don't. My hydraulic tank is suspended between the chassis rails so is open to the air on all six sides which must help with the cooling. I can't say I've ever taken a temperature reading but the filter is in in the control cabinet and every time I've felt the temperature, it hasn't given me any cause for concern. The compressor gets run for maybe half hour at a time max.

That was cool you helping out with the motor parts for John, I have a guy sends me rare fordson tractor parts from Australia. I'm sending him some parts for his cummins 5.9 conversion into a 3500 Chev truck . There is hard to find parts being shipped all over the world by guys trying to help each other out, it's nice to be a part of it . My local parts guys had a hard time believing where some of what I buy was ending up ! Being English in Canada It was cool seeing the JCB 3cx backhoe loader ,Ford 7810 ,and the 1 pound coin he had on the motor. Those 80's to 1990 years 3cx's are my favorite backhoe loaders, The 7810 is my favorite Ford tractor from that age, and the pound coin resting on the motor, well everybody loves money L.O.L,then to hear him talk about woodbines with that accent was just priceless. You' re correct : in gearing, when speed increases, torque decreases. On the cruise /pto switch : on transit coaches they have a high idle switch. A toggle switch that supplies a voltage input, to the PTO circuit at the ecm. Thinking this how your set up is. It's either on or off. Maybe there is something in the parameters for pto that could be set with inside ?

Outfitted the whole shop for around 15k. They're not CAT bolts, but for certain applications (vermeer wood chippers with cummins engines) I order bolts from the manufacturer. I'm in maryland, fleet of ford F-750s, freightliner M2s, isuzu NRRs. Some international, sterling, western star and others mixed in. Equipment is all skid/steer size (tree work, mostly residential).

Dick Foster told me years ago that heavy use of PTO required using the more bolts required hook-up on the transmission. We have a lot of loggers who really use the PTO hard. up here. Below zero cold weather on the oil requires more stress on the pump drive gears. I understand why you do not want auxiliary engines in the winter. The gasoline and the cold make them stall out and hard to restart from the moisture icing up the air cleaners and carburetors. Centrifugal Clutches are neede to start the engines in the cold, so the starter is not also turning the attached pumps and etc.

I wonder how closely related, if at all, to the current V8 Cats used in the D10 these engines are?
@jandjtool2 жыл бұрын
The 336 is a huge different engine from the 3408 in a D10. The 3408 does not use a set of balancers like a 336. Although they are both 60 degree V8s. The 3408 overcame the balance issue by using a state of the art crankshaft with offset connecting rod journals. Used to be a pamphlet that shows the design. It worked great.
