My family has been in the coal .mining industry for almost 60 years. They have both deep mining and surface mining operations . The first hi drives of any size the purchased was 4 of the D9 L series, and they were some big ass dozers. Two with rippers ,two without. Then they purchased 2 D10 Ns which were just a little larger than the 9 Ls . Now all of their dozers are either R or T series . They usually buy their equipment in batches ,as needed . They now have 4 D11s 3 of them T series and 1 R series. 3 D10 T series and 2 9s both T series. Seems like over the past 30 years, as I've watched Caterpillar equipment evolve , things have changed drastically. Now rather than purchasing 992 front end loaders and 777 rock trucks , they have mostly went to 993 K serious loaders and 785 rock trucks . Actually every piece of surface equipment they own ,is Caterpillar. Except for their rock drills , and they are Drilltech ,and Ingersoll . Seems like the Caterpillar equipment in particular has gotten a little smaller in dimensions only . Everything seems to be more compact ,but yet weighs just as much, if not more than the previous machinery ,of older series . I know when they changed their dozer series and sizes ,when they introduced the D11N ,which had previously been known as the D10 . All of their dozers went down in size in that change over . That's not what I'm talking about though. I swear the triple 7 rick trucks even look smaller ,but yet they have a higher load capacity. Oh yeah and that single armed 992 G and K series. We had a lot of trouble ,exactly where we thought we would. At the base of the arm , where its pinned to the bucket . We have had 3 break fractures ,and 1 complete breakage failure. One of the reasons they are going to the 993s All in all I still say Caterpillar equipment is the best period. It's like Joy underground mining equipment ,Its da best . It boils my blood that Kamotsu purchased leturneo ,and Joy global ,as well as P&H . I suspect that Caterpillar is on it's way to being a full sale out just like those companies. I didnt even know that Caterpillar built all of its low profile underground mining and construction equipment in Thailand until a few weeks ago . That really puts me off to them .

Where are you you and your families business located.. just curious because I live in southwestern Pennsylvania and coal mining is a big industry around here and for the first time in decades is starting to grow after many years of struggling with regulations and demand
