I'm no psycho tree-hugger, just a sportsman and balanced conservationist, but as I grow older myself and gain more wisdom and appreciation for TIME, whenever I see a majestic old growth tree like that felled my heart winces and breaks... What withstood eons of challenges is gone forever in mere hours for a very short term use or profit. Yes trees are "renewable" but at 100-500-1,000+yrs old they should be left untouched. Have areas designated as 'tree farms' where faster growing trees can be harvested, replanted and rotated... Leave the OLD GROWTH for our future children to be in awe of!

I remember watching this old cartoon as a kid ( I think it was Looney tunes) that sums it up. It was a scene where this lumberyard was processing hundreds of gigantic tree trunks through about four or five machines. The end result... a tablespoon.

Trees of that size are no longer cut in the USA with the exception of cutting trees that serve a larger purpose. Profound words by Molly Tuttle.... Two trees in the forest, one was crooked, one was straight Crimson bark and emerald needles growing day by day And though they looked so different, they enjoyed the rain the same side by side A chickadee had told them of a darkness on the land Spinning blades that came to visit carried by a man And every other tree would see them cut down where they stand by and by Oh, can't you see A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine? They're left to grow wild and free Oh, I'd rather be a crooked tree Perfect trees were driven down the mountain to the mill They turned them into toothpicks and twenty dollar bills It seemed the more the people took, the more they needed still in the end The crooked trees were left there after all the work was done Now they go for weeks and never witness anyone No one left to tell them if they’re growing right or wrong but the whispering wind Oh, can't you see A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine? They're left to grow wild and free I'd rather be a crooked tree People say I'm different and my way of life seems strange I took the road less traveled, twists and turns along the way But like the crooked tree, I'm growing stronger day by day as the clouds roll by A river never wonders why it flows around the bend A mountain doesn't question how it rose up from the land So who am I to wish I wasn't just the way I am? Who am I? Oh, can't you see A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine? They're left to grow wild and free Oh, I'd rather be a crooked tree A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine They're left to grow wild and free I'd rather be a crooked tree Oh, I'd rather be a crooked tree

Because of their natural resources, the governments need people to gather the resources and don’t need to educate the people.. Meanwhile, places with few resources need to try harder to earn money, and their people end up educated and have nice amenities.

People have no idea about forest management. All these whiners probably live in cities and have no idea how to cut a tree, let alone which ones to take to maintain a healthy plot of forest. I have a varied several acres where I am. Some trees overtake others and crowd them out. Then often the trees that raced ahead are weak and a percentage end up dying and breaking off creating dangerous areas. I harvest these to heat my home. Not every tree cut is a tragedy.

Just remember that trees are renewable. We just have to be mindful of how much we take down and be sure to replant areas. Still, does make me a little sad to see a massive tree go down. We have an oak on our property that I roughly dated to around 1860-1880. It's the biggest tree I've ever seen in person. I'm not letting anyone touch that tree. 😉

That bloke is one very skilled operator. To make an accurate scarf (wedge) with such a long bar on such a large trunk takes an immense amount of experience and skill, but to do it when the angle (second) cut is made upwards rather than downwards is even more difficult. Given the plunge cut he initially made, I'm assuming the tree had a significant lean (or amount of weight) in the direction of the intended fall - and he was endeavouring to reduce the tension on the opposite side of the trunk (to his scarf and the intended direction of fall) and in order to reduce any possibility of any barber chair effect when he later made his final (back) cut).

@@Rotary_Phone ......yes when I was young and without a savior yes I would have been drooling at the mouth. But now that I live to tell people about the wonderful savior in Jesus Christ I don't need money. I live off of a retirement & SSA check and I don't live beyond my means that I've been gifted in and by Him. I have a peace in where I am going, I drive a 2000 dodge truck and live in a trailer on one acre of land. I have everything I need, especially a safe and comfortable (for me) life and knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt where my spirit/soul will spend eternity in love, safety and bliss with the Lord Jesus Christ and all who accept his sacrifice for sin, His shed blood. Sir, if you allow yourself to put the terrible things of this earth, where Satan reigns, down and accept Jesus you too can have a wonderful future of what's left here for you and what will happen with your spirit when your time expires. And I know you know your time here is approximately 70 or so years however "eternity" is forever. Your spirit will never die it will exist somewhere forever also. You can only enter Heaven through the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. I pray you think about this and you too can live without all the pitfalls that are placed in front of you here. May God place someone in your life now that can help lead you to Him. Take care my friend. 🙏 p.s. No I, like you, would not cut this tree down. 😊

It’s not about the money, it’s an opportunity. People are opportunists, and leaving a tree standing means passing up on the opportunity. Some of us can do that, but it’s hard to expect Everyone to, so unless we have laws forbidding it, stopping it from being an opportunity (or an easy one at least), than someone’s likely to jump on it..
