Just found your channel. Loving your content. New Sub. I caught a bowling ball a couple years back out of that lake you are cast netting. great spot for blue gill and shad for sure. Im gonna have to get on the river now. I normally fish that lake your at and have had decent luck with eating size channels.

Hey thank you so much for watching!! I have been so busy lately starting a business and me and my wife are actually going out today on the boat to one of our spots. We appreciate the comment and hopefully it's some good luck for tonight. And yes there is some good bait in Cedar lake and also heard of people catching good size channel in there. -Matt

Cedar lake for the bait?
@CatfishKC4 жыл бұрын
Yep!! That's one of the spots we usually get some live bait at. Every once in awhile shad...and lost a few nets as well.

@@CatfishKC I live in a neighborhood close to that lake. We have a little pond full of bluegill. I am sure you could come grab some once in a while if you dont make it crazy obvious.

I do love small ponds like that. A little pole and some worms and you can usually do pretty good. I'll have to get your info and maybe check it out on a nice day

Great video! Isn’t illegal to net bluegill and perch in Kansas though. I live in Olathe and was catching bait and a park ranger told me rod and reel only on them🤷♂️
@CatfishKC4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! We appreciate you watching. I have never heard anything like that from a park ranger or anyone. Where you in a private neighborhood pond or lake? That's weird. They sell them at every Walmart in town and BassPro here in Olathe as well. I know that doesn't make it legal but.... It is legal.. Here is the Kansas Law for next time they say anything. Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Bait fish (as defined) may be taken for noncommercial purposes. Methods: Methods: seine not larger than 15 feet long and four feet deep, with mesh not larger than 1/4 inch; fish trap with mesh not larger than 1/4 inch and throat no larger than 1 inch in diameter (must be tagged with fisherman's name and address); fishing line; or a dip or cast net with mesh no larger than 1/2 inch. Size: bait fish may not exceed 12 inches. Limit: 500 per person. Legal waters: statewide, except that seining is prohibited on department-owned waters. License requirement: unless exempt by law, a fishing license is required.

Not private public. But regardless private or public you can you them for bait just have to catch them by rod and reel. But shad and creek chub are fair game with the cast net.

@@mikeb610 Yeah. I'd like to have a conversation with that park ranger or whoever you talked to. I've been cast netting for over 10 years here in Olathe and never been questioned. The law is pretty clear. Bait fish only and not over 12 inches. It's always been a rule of thumb not to keep bass or crappie..game fish etc.

Have to go to the definitions section to get the full answer...we wondered about it too when we started netting. Baitfish Baitfish: Minnow or carp family (Cyprinidae), sucker family (Catostomidae), top minnows or killifish family (Cyprinodontidae), shad family (Clupeidae), sunfish family (Centrarchidae), excluding black basses and crappie, which may be used only if caught by hook and line. Bait fish exclude any of those fishes specifically named by regulation as Kansas threatened or endangered species. So, cast nets for blue gill ok
