This mode really gives me the feeling of commanding a unit forward. You have no way of knowing the actual situation of the team. The operators may lose their lives for various reasons along the way. All we can do is choose the decisions with higher success rates for them. Behind the brief phrase “team lost contact,” who knows how many lives are carried. Although the gameplay isn’t strong, the atmosphere is truly immersive. Looking at the missing team icons, sometimes I feel like I’m sending the logistics personnel of Rhodes Island to their deaths. Yet, they still thank me for my guidance. In reality, I treat their lives as chips in a game of profit and probability. Initially, I wasn’t attracted to this BGM. However, as I played Hidden Frontline and faced repeated failures, I realized that victory is achieved through countless attempts by countless people. This sorrowful yet uplifting melody seems like a hymn to the courage of those who sacrificed, and I completely fell in love with this BGM. A grand canvas is always woven from countless tiny fibers. As the team’s routes into the war zone intersect, decay and death fade from this land. The dawn has broken through the darkness, revealing a silhouette on the horizon, reflecting on the faces of every survivor. The next event on the international server will be this one. I believe that after experiencing it, you will have a new understanding of the song “Merciful Broken Sun.”

The song 'merciful broken sun' is the background music for a small gameplay called 'hidden front' during the event. In this gameplay, we need to act as doctors to command various teams to transport supplies to the front battlefield and provide assistance on the way. You can only see your team's route on the map, and you need to help the team make decisions in various situations. But the battlefield conditions are harsh, sometimes the entire team suffers losses and loses contact, and the line on the map just stops and dims. Under this background music, you can see the routes of both successful and failed teams remain on the map, with new teams heading towards the battlefield one after another.

So, obviously Broken Sun/Merciful Broken Sun are variations of the same theme, but in addition to that, I think the guitar part of Merciful Broken Sun (5:58 in this video) sounds really spot on to the very beginning of Settle Into Ash, which I have to assume is an intentional reference. (I'm not far enough along in the Arknights story to know the meaning of that reference, but it's cool either way)

Also, in Merciful Broken Sun if you have the volume high enough, you can actually hear distinct but only slightly different layers in the vocals. These likely represent the survivor of the war, Amiya, but also the ghost that goes with her and tries to comfort her, Teresa. Then again, Adam "One of the Guys"man probably made these lyrics have a bunch of different distinct meanings in the same passage.
