In modern Germany the rise and fall of the Third Reich, the horrors of nazism, the reasons why something like this must never happen again and the scourge of neo-nazis are discussed in excruciating detail in schools. Whole swaths of political activists do nothing else but protest neo-nazis routinely gathering crowds several times than the demonstrations they protest. And publicly saying something reminiscent of Hitler's or NSDAP ideology is political suicide. As for the annexetion of Georgia, In Russia we call it "saving the unthankful Georgians" (too onesided to my taste, but essentially true considering their pleas, a muslim threat, a civil war threat and the fact that there was no such a thing as Georgia, but rather a bunch of feodal fiefs locked in constant coflict)

Vyletongue Georgia did have two states at the time and the ruler of Kartli-Kakheti was possibly more able and a stronger ruler than Catherine herself. The protection pact was a prelude to the annexation which happened right after the able and great king of Kartli-Kakheti passed away. Considering how you oppressed Georgian culture and nationality after annexation, it *is* natural that Georgians are unthankful.

I think there may be a mistake regarding Georgia. Catherine wanted an alliance with Georgia ("The Russian empress Catherine the Great was keen to have the Georgians as allies in her wars against the Turks and Persians, but sent only meagre forces to help them.") and her son Paul expanded the border after her death in 1796 as stated on Wikipedia: "After Giorgi's [king of Georgia, aka Giorgi XII] death on 28 December 1800, the kingdom was torn between the claims of two rival heirs, Davit and Iulon. However, Tsar Paul I of Russia had already decided neither candidate would be crowned king. Instead, the monarchy would be abolished and the country administered by Russia.[11] He signed a decree on the incorporation of Kartli-Kakheti into the Russian Empire[12][13] which was confirmed by Tsar Alexander I on 12 September 1801."

Great as always, but it seemed rather short for some reason. Perhaps because it was without the excitement that a usual episode offers. I do believe that Catherine the Great did marry Potemkin. I think she loved the Man he was half the time. But not the other half. I wish there was more than one episode a week. I really love history, and learning about it in this form is for me personally, the best yet. Thank you for enriching my life, and knowledge of our past each week.

'friendzoned'? Did you watch the video or not? Potemkin was Catherine's love of her life, refers to him as her husband and herself as his wife. They broke up because of his jealousy and even after they broke up, Catherine breaks off her relationship with her lovers if they insult Potemkin. How is that friendzoned?

Are you purposefully forgetting to mention Suvorov? Potemkin's really a minor player compared to the Count of Rymnik, Count of the Holy Roman Empire, Prince of Italy, and the last Generalissimo of the Russian Empire.

Basically, Potemkin was easily distracted, and overthinking, but in doing so he also was not idle, and was able to fix most of the issues he had before him.

Pifilix XIV she's probably the artist for these episodes, they have other artists for extra history than for extra credits

I also thought she might represent the artist, since she looks very similar to the girl carrying the books (which is very cute btw.) in the "follow us for more in the next part" bit at the end of every EH video.

It's really sad that the power imbalance destroyed their relationship. But on the other hand it makes me misty-eyed to imagine loving each other so much that even without romance they were loyal to the end.

What an interesting little series! It does, however, directly contradict another fascinating documentary of Catherine The Great in which she is shown as the one needing constant declarations of love and undying devotion from Potemkin and wanting to be with him 24/7 to the point that it seems he nearly came to loathe the sight of her (not really, but still... Having an insecure leech on you like that would be emotionally draining). This series says it's the opposite and that it is Potemkin who was clinging, needy and suspicious. Perhaps it was BOTH of them and that caused the ultimate breakdown of their romance, but not so their friendship, loyalty and an even greater love than mere romance implies...
