Omg, a beautiful melancholy sound and 2 of the most beautiful voices....wow, spine tingling. Thank you so much for posting.

I was at this show. I think it was at the Bowery Ballroom, around 2001 or 2002. This performance was killer.

Yes. The breakup was heartbreaking to me, as I had just become a fan and was into collecting their music and saw the band 3 times during their last hurrah. It didn't make any sense for them to break up. The band kept their fan base all along, and to throw it away in favor of Rob solo was a letdown. I dig him, but let's face it, bands are ALWAYS preferable to solo acts.

But why should they? Who wants to buy the same CD over and over? I like bands that evolve. EVERY Catherine Wheel release is worth picking up. Some fans didn't like "Wishville", their last, very much, but if you go back to it, there are some fantastic tracks on there, like "Ballad of a Running Man", which deserves repeat playings. "Mad Dog" should have been the lead single.

I remember buying the wishville limited edition CD, but not losing it after only a few days of listening..! :/ I tried to buy it online on amazon but a decade ago none of my friends had credit cards or were afraid of.. the internet :D btw. I think sb stole it.

"Wishville" could have made more of an impact if "Mad Dog" had been the single chosen to go to radio instead of "Sparks Are Gonna Fly". The second single was "Gasoline" but it too was ignored.

I saw Rob in Long Beach, CA, for a record store appearance. I talked to him a bit and suggested another "Like Cats and Dogs" type of collection of CW rarities, but he didn't seem too enthused. I guess he's trying to put the band behind him but can he really?

I'm hopeful that he's not putting the band completely behind him. He does play CW songs along with his solo stuff, and two of the songs on his album feature Futter and Sims.

I think they broke up due to frustration. The albums were not promoted well, and internal problems came up (i.e. the loss of Dave Hawes). After "Wishville" was panned, I think they got fed up. A Rob solo act, which really didn't start until 3-4 years later, is a good sign after all that. I'm like you, though; I discovered them and bought all their albums and then they broke up soon after. Very disappointing.

I'll second that. I find every Catherine Wheel album different and engaging, and their break-up is one of the biggest wastes in rock music.
