The longer you live in your home the more likely it gets cluttered. We have lived in our current home for 23 years and it’s pretty full. I’m on a decluttering journey as we have bought a home to downsize into. The things you find are surprising. I think I’m like your mom and just ready to let things go. When you get older and have health issues (which I do) it’s just exhausting to try and maintain your home especially with so much stuff. I want my home to be easy to clean and maintain.❤️🙏🙏🙏

I never and will never decorate for any season or holiday. I dont celebrate any holiday except Thanksgiving and barely Christmas, and for birthdays, ugh 🙄. Its all way to much.

We only use ROKU. My husband watches FreeVee or Tubi. I watch Dateline or Oxygen on Live TV on ROKU. I only shop for things we eat, use or wear. We just bought our dream home and we're using our starter home (it's paid off) as rental property to pay our mortgage on our new home. Buying this home is worth every step it took to get here! I use the Dave Ramsey method of budgeting. We're a one income family with 5 kids. I hope this helps someone.

We collected all photos & made 41 piles bc that's what we had. Now for a Christmas gift we sent all pictures back to the ppl that we had pictures of beside cards & sent a handmade card to say I didn't want to toss ur love ones away so here they are & enjoy. And some ppl had past away & they never saw my pictures so it was beautiful to them. Think about it. I started with 1981 & boy was it a blessing to c where & how fortunate we are with friends & family. Good luck hope it helps ppl.

I ran across your video today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm the cleaning organizer myself. But I get tips from everywhere and enjoyed your voice. I find it motivational to get things done at home when I turn these on and you have a lot of Really great ideas. I just wanted to mention that white vinegar might take the stain off the lazy Susan. And I've used old vinyl strips from old flooring for cabinet liner. I don't know if anybody else likes it, but it's great if you have scraps or can pick up a piece somewhere. It's wonderful for shelf and draw liner. And so is old Christmas. Birthday, etc. You can use that to line your cabinets and on top of your cabinets. And then when they're greasy and yucky, you could just throw it away.

I love using my photos as my "home decor" so I decorate with a LOT of photos around my home and it makes me happy. You have to find what makes you happy! 💜

For the photo Christmas cards, I keep a medium sized photo album about 10 x 8 that has full page plastic sleeves. Generally one page per family, with the most current photo card in the stack on top. I'm not sure if I'll always keep them this way, but I do like having all the years in one place and accessible anytime. Graduation and baby announcements also go in this album. It's pretty stuffed, so I have a cloth band with velcro holding it all together.

I agree with you on Temu. Most of the items I bought didn't work or was crap. They wouldn't replace broken items. I will never shop with them again. I love all your organizations. Helped me alot. I need to organize now myself. I'm leaving a 3br to 1 br. I also have 2 storage sheds. I have lots of work ahead of me. Thank you

I have a lot of fun helping my relatives with their decluttering and organization projects. It makes me so happy that the people I care about feel comfortable enough to open up and trust me to go through their spaces. I'm glad you have a chance to create a more peaceful atmosphere for your folks. No one should feel embarrassed for needing help or for wanting to make positive changes. We all have flaws and struggles. Even after reaching a 'maintanence' level with my belongings, I still have times where things get messy. The only difference is that those messes are MUCH smaller and take very little time to clean up. I'm convinced that it's impossible for me to craft without creating a small disaster area 😂

I do what my Grandmother did with her Christmas cards, I store them in a box with Christmas decorations every year and pull them out and hang them on a ribbon down the walls to display. That way I'm not throwing out the thoughtfulness of others, but I can use them as decorations years to come and they're not taking up space in my living area. Hope this idea helps.

Hi Catherine! I don't use Temu either and I only stream KZbin free movies and TV and MAX because it's free with AT&T. I also have a "junk drawer" but for some reason it feels better to call it a utility drawer. I've only bought one thing on Amazon since August. LOL. Thanks for the great video!

I’m sooo grateful for you and this video! I’m in the process of decluttering the storage unit we’ve had for 11 years. Using the body doubling method and you are so incredibly helpful and uplifting! Oh I love basement decluttering because I am currently trying to organize and declutter our basement. I have a container in a bedroom closet that I keep electronic items and cords. The cords I presently need I use and know what they are for. The cords in the closet are kept there even though I don’t think I will ever need.

Great Job! Ignore the comments about how your are getting rid of items! Those comments are not worth your response! Love what you did for your parents. Yes, they collect things and are the generation that didn't waste anything so they kept things just in case, plus with both parents working there just isn't the time to declutter, that goes on the back burner. It looks so great!

Catherine… The easiest idea for the stains on the lazy Susan trays would be to use contact paper or vinyl shelf liners. I bought the Vinyl roll from Walmart and love it. It’s heavy enough to lay nice and easy to cut with lines on the back for measuring.

Walmart has some clear bins that fit perfectly in lower cabinets. This might work for your corner cabinet in your kitchen.

Regarding user's manuals, it's a good idea to keep them if your appliances are more than a couple of years old, because depending on the merchant or manufacturer, you may not be able to find them online anymore. That has happened to me before.

Temu is a market place the same as Amazon both sell the same items from the same suppliers you can see the same ads on both its only the prices that differ and alot of things on both sites are cheap copies but as with everything you only have to buy what you want and temu do free returns if you're not happy 😊

Now in my 70's n living in a tiny home, I am over all the stuff. I agree throwing out is my ultimate goal. Anymore donating to thrift store, if they are willing to pick it up, in some cases yes. But thrift places are looking like junk stores. The way you are going through as you tidy up is a good option as well. Thanks.

With Christmas cards, i used to keep the ones i would get from school friends etc and make small gift boxes or christmas decorations out of the printed side. Special cards i would keep, or take a photo/scan of the messages that were dearest to me. I'd strongly recommend taking photos or scans of what you consider special because pen ink fades/changes over time. I've got really old messages where the ink has turned fuzzy/blurry.

I would just scan the photos (I have a book scanner setup) and then throw the photos away. You could also have an electronic frame that cycles through the photos if you still wanted to see them somewhere visually.

I keep Christmas card photos with my Christmas decorations. I like to look at them once a year when I’m putting up a few decorations. I have a decorative ceramic holder for them that I set out in case anyone else wants to browse through them at Christmas time.

In reply to your cord question: I keep a label machine in a desk drawer near my high traffic area and when I get some thing in with a cord I type it on the label and stick to the cord. My cordless, vacuum, my cordless spin scrubber, Kindle charging cord etc

Oxiclean works great on fabric. Baking soda and vinegar with Magic eraser, , Dawn dish detergent is great for grease ,maybe some baking soda added for abrasive

We get the Hulu Disney bundle on black Friday every year (alternate email address w husband) for $3.17/mo w tax. That's all we have. Sometimes we'll get Netflix for $6.99 just for 1 mo and then cancel. You can pretty much find anything online to stream after a day or two on Netflix, etc.... haven't paid for cable in 16+ years!

FOR GREETING CARDS: buy those extra large yet slim photos albums, put all your greeting cards lined up in those. You can categorize the albums by seasons and put on display during thier respective time period.

Is the kitchen you’re working in the one in your small house? So many small space organizing videos show kitchens with much more drawer and cabinet space than mine. I live in a 1200sf rental apartment. The galley kitchen has 3 average width drawers and one very narrow drawer; 3 upper cabinets (plus a small one over the microwave); 4 bottom cabinets (counting the one under the sink); and a very narrow pantry. I’ve been looking for kitchen decluttering & organizing videos showing a kitchen like mine, but haven’t found one, yet. Good luck on your decluttering and downsizing journey!

I don't keep cards in general past a few weeks or the end of a holiday season unless it's particularly special. The joy of a receiving a card is when you receive it &/or display it during a holiday season or your b-day week. After that, I toss them & I don't feel any guilt (even if the card has pictures on it!). I don't think anyone is expecting you to store cards for a long period of time & keeping them just creates another declutter item for future you.

For the impulsive amazon shopping, Im guilty of it to! My way of cutting back on it was making a list of "maybes" when i knew i didn't immediatly need it. From this I would only purchase it if within two weeks I thought to myself "man this would be so helpful rn" if you wouldn't think that then u wouldn't need it

Tip: before any technology or appliance you should have invested at least 50$ on a decent shredder. Never EVER throw away mail with your stuff on it, being just the address to more serious things like birth dates, ANYTHING. And if you already have one, use it systematically. Sit it near the mail cabinet and do it for the most innocuous piece of paper. 'Better safe than sorry' has never been more apt. Good decluttering!

I've ordered probably 20 things from TEMU and I've never had a problem. One water hose came in with a bent box and I was going to send it back and they said no keep it and they refunded my money. I've had probably six or seven outfits for my granddaughter, they all turned out perfect. I ordered two purses and I just switched them around and they are still in great condition. I ordered a corded vacuum cleaner and it sucks better than my Bissell. It was only $56.00. I've been using it since February and haven't had one problem with it. Not everything is junk I don't think. Did you throw everything away in the landfill or did you declutter a lot of that to Goodwill or another company? I hope you didn't throw it all away.

I agree. We've saved so much money buying straight from Temu, vs going through Amazon all the time. As long as you stay away from the junky gimmicky stuff, you should be good 🤷‍♀️ oh and always read the reviews. I don't buy the products that have zero reviews.

You did quite a lot of work there and have a beautiful home. Maybe teach the kids to clean up at a certain time before bed and set a timer. That seems like way too much for one mom to clean up, especially toys. You inspire me to get my own surfaces and drawers/cabinets under control. Maybe put odd cords into a basket. I worry about unknown cords too--hard to throw out. Good job!!!

I rarely pre wash my dishes. I just put them in the dishwasher as is. They usually come out just fine.

I'm not a builder or carpenter, but my thoughts on the water damaged cupboard beside the dishwasher: Easiest would be to ask a professional, be sure it's dry enough and then let them just change the damaged parts. If doing it yourself I'd search online including youtube for more knowledge. Probably easiest to take away the door for a while and have it empty for airing. Then I'd make sure it has really dried out, and of course under and behind the dishwasher if there was any risk of water going there. Then saw away the damaged wood, and let it dry more. Measure the old bits and saw new pieces and put in place. Doesn't have to be perfect, just functional since there is a door. But a professional who understands that you want as little as possible done is the easiest🪚⚒️🪚

Use the pink stuff (in a tub) to scour the stains off. And then honestly... use contact paper to cover it up, it seems yellowed maybe.

christmas cards get put away with christmas decor so i can use them as such if i choose to. Pictures are kept in albums under my side tables in my living room. I agree with the junk drawer maybe we need to rename it perhaps our "miscellaneous needs" drawer

I had an extermination spray around my house outside to stop ants and it did work, I was seeing a few and someone told me to have the outside sprayed around the house. I haven't see any for a few years.

I think the junk/Bullwinkle drawer should be renamed the convenience drawer. To me it is items not "native to the room" but needed frequently enough to keep some things there.

Pictures go into albums on the bookshelf here, what does not fit goes into closet. Pictures of duplicate things get tossed. Family pics are offered to my kids. My cords go into a box with a shelf date, after a year if not put into a 2nd box marked used, they get tossed.

Maybe it’s not junk but I keep a 100’ tape measure from my real estate days, two or three screwdrivers, a tube of gorilla glue and several small spice bottles with loose screws/nails/brads. Plus a utility knife with a sharp blade. It shall remain the ‘junk drawer’. 😊

Sometimes, decluttering means get rid of the trash. If anything still good or need minor fixes, then set to the curb for anyone that might need. If sits on the curb more than a week, just get rid of in the trash. Remember, sometimes you can change some things into something beautiful.
