It’s so easy to just keep everything. I m 68 and I recently went through a remodel of my home, I got new flooring so every room in the house was a touched. I sold about 80-100 items, give away about 6 bins of stuff and took stuff to a local donation center. It feels so good to have empty draws and cabinets

We did the same thing (total remodel) over five years ago. We got rid of so much and haven’t missed a thing. In fact, I’m still finding items to get rid of now. Decluttering is never-ending. It feels so good. I would guess we’ve had VietNam Vets pick up 5-6 + bags/boxes over 15 times.

It is called depression glass because it was often included inside packages of Quaker Oats or other products during the depression of the 1930’s. Women got a free, pretty dish with each purchase and could build a nice set of dishes. These were usually pressed glass pieces in many shapes and colors. They were not meant to be fine dishware but much of it has lasted for nearly 90 years. This is because there was so much of it and because it went out of fashion, so people, like your mom, just stored it away and forgot it. I don’t think it is valuable but it is collectible. Some rare patterns or pieces may have value. If it is uranium glass, the kind that glows under black light, then it is highly collectible. Some patterns and colors are still manufactured today. It is not all old. Read the article on Wikipedia. Thanks for helping your mom. It’s wonderful to see you two sharing a task and laughing together.

I had some from my grandmother and just pieces of different colors. Took to an antique store and not worth much money. There was some with a tiny chip and I was told to put in garage sale for a couple of dollars. So you might go to an antique store and see what they will give you. People are always searching for pieces to make a set.

I was told they also gave a piece away at the movies. Don’t know if this was true or not, but my mom or grandma told me this.

Depending on the piece, they can be very valuable. My mother collects pink Depression glass and some of her pieces are upwards of $100-200 per piece due to their rarity.

Hello. I just found your channel this morning and really enjoyed this. How sweet of you to help your parents that way. I am at 77 year old grandmother from South Texas coast near Houston. I have been going through my house and decluttering for several years. When my mom passed away it was horrendous what we had to go through and also heartbreaking to get rid of The things she cherished but we could not keep. I want to spare my children this. On September 1 I started doing the five minute Declutter with clutter bug. This is so great. It’s so easy just to do five minutes and get rid of five things and it sure makes such a difference. I’m looking forward to watching your videos now that I have subscribed. Love in Christ

Idea for your Mom's sea glass collection: maybe for her next birthday or Christmas, you could buy her a pair of matching side table lamps that have an empty glass cylinder for a base (some people fill them with seashells) and fill them with her sea glass collection. If they are too small, buy her four instead of two. Then she could get rid of some outdated lamps and replace them with pretty new seaglass lamps! 🟦🟢🟪🟡

That’s such a lovely idea. You see them every day then and they’re not hidden away. I had some beautiful pebbles I’d collected and I made a little water feature in my garden right by my window where I sit so I can see them. It’s much better they’re on display than hidden away.😊

I would love to buy some sea glass from her because I am wanting to start learning how to wire wrap some pieces into a necklace. My husband has cancer so I’m trying to find a new hobby or two to give me something to focus on in the next year. If she had special pieces, I’d be glad to make her something from it and send it to her. I also LOVE that you are doing this with YOUR MOTHER. What a blessing! My brother passed away in 2021, and as my sisters and I were emptying out his house, we laughed and cried over pieces and things we remembered, but there was so much we hadn’t seen before. We would have loved if he had been there to help with memories, or tell us new stories some of the pieces. Healing blessings to your Mom! She raised a wonderful daughter!

I retired early 8yrs ago, so Ive gotten to move to several states I only keep essential items. I get rid of everything that can be replaced $20 or is available at Amazon. If I have 2 items, I get rid of the larger one. I donate all the furniture and 75% of my clothes. I keep what will fit in my car, so I fill 12 Totes 1 Art supplies 2 Bathroom/Laundry 3 Blankets, Pillows 4 Cat food litter toy 5 Clothes Fall Winter 6 " " Spring Summer 7 Cooking Appliances 8 Docs, Books, Pics 9 Ministry 10 Office/Study 11 Pantry 12 Work Tools ~My mother sold her condo in CA to buy over 20 condos in TX. So our inheritance was only to be used as a down payment on a home. I suddenly felt trapped year after year. I could nolonger call maintenance, so I had to work all kind of crazy hours to pay for repairs. I was unemployed for 2yrs so I was relieved to sell it and give 90% away. I rented a furnished bedroom and my life was stress free again. I quickly got a great job and a gorgeous apt. I feel like having a house create consumerism. The "Things" end up owning us!

Great that your helping your mom. I am finding over the years I delclutter often. I am 56 and my husband and I have moved quite a bit for jobs he has had and we have had to downsize many times. I do like to thrift . So if i get things I am always declutter things . we recently had to clean out my father n laws house when he had to go into hospice and there was so much stuff in his home and it was tiring. So it helped me realize that it is easier to declutter often so you do not have way way to much stuff for your kids to someday get rid of.

This is a great time to find out the stories behind her collectibles. My Mom and us girls went around her home the same way before she passed. So much stuff that held great memories for her and my Dad. We also took masking tape and put the name of the person she wanted her treasures to go to on the bottom of the items. This was a great relief to us to know the story and who to give it to.
