Wanted to share a basement cleaning method used by my Great Aunt Myra: she swore by using a multi-purpose spray (often also antibacterial like for kitchens and bathrooms) in her basement. She added about 12 drops of cedar essential oil into the dispenser bottle (or eucalyptus or peppermint if out of cedar) and shook it hard to mix before each use. She claimed it not only removed dust but dirt, oils and whatever clings to these substances! The cedar helped her with insect issues as they (spiders, ants and maybe roaches?) don't like these strong smells and chemical makeup... It seemed to work pretty well and her basement always smelled great! Just a suggestion if you are interested... - Wonderful video, thank you for sharing it! Looking forward to more! Bye

Sick, pregnant and a new born are not excuses. something has to go on the back burner to survive. Seeing this made me glad I don't have a basement in this house. I used to hate cleaning them out, it's just a pit of deferred decisions. Now I have to use it or lose it, a basement only made me keep things for two years before I threw them out.

I recently painted my basement and laundry area a gorgeous turquoise. It now brightens my spirit every time I go down there. I also put up a curtain rod and visually separated off all the storage. Just an idea but maybe find a color that brightens your spirits and paint your laundry basement. You will be amazed by the difference.

I have decluttered over 8000 items and there's still lots to go. It's scary how fast things can add up. I was a shopaholic who decluttered but it still got ahead of me. I realized I needed to stop all shopping that wasn't necessary until I got the home entirely decluttered.

You did a great job Catherine. I know you’re planning to move, but think about adding Somme more lighting to your basement. We did it and it maid such a huge difference
@d.k.s.40576 ай бұрын
Another thought- you mentioned "freshening" the articles of clothing and/or covers from the basement which were musty or questionable to use for your family unless deemed clean and safe... What I do is use large wool dryer balls in the dryer, adding a combination of essential oils on them in order to make them aromatic. I also intend to repel possible insects if I am going to store the blanket, duvets, pillows, etc. so one of the oils is cedar (thanks, Aunt Myra). The other two oils are orange (my favorite) and clove (goes well with orange and balances the cedar's crispness)... Just an option as I know not everyone wants to go to this detail. However, I have had great success in pulling out items from storage only to find them fresh and ready-to-use. I do throw away what is not salvageable or in question. Good work for my household- a little planning goes a long way! Bye

I just recently did a massive garage declutter and I went through an entire roll of 20 heavy duty bags! Just a quick question, what are those trash bags you used to declutter your garage? I might need them for my next declutter!
@judylynnturner6 ай бұрын
I use heavy duty contractor bags. They are huge, less likely to puncture, and reduce hubby's probability of looking in the bags to take things back out because he's second guessing items.

This was s really satisfying declutter. I counted up how many coats accumulated in this place over the years, not included blazers and cardigans and it was 71. I need to get so much better at discarding the unnecessary and stop being such a pack rat. It's crept up on me once I put down roots and stopped moving from rental to rental every few months. When I was young all my possessions fitted in a couple of car loads I never even had to hire movers. Now look at me! My entire home looks like your basement "before" pics

I feel 2020 was the year of divorce. Everyone I knew, or watch on KZbin, and ME myself, all had our brush with divorce - either thinking about it, were about to go through with it, trial separation, or actually executed the divorce procedure. I myself was looking for a paralegal to do a no-contest divorce, but my husband and I ended up reconciling and stayed together.
