• BACKPACKING COLORADO O...
This is my first ever backpacking trip in Colorado! I am joined by my niece Christine of "This Girl Hikes" (channel link: / @nomadunknown4766 ). We hike along the gorgeous Pine River Trail in the Weminuche Wilderness (part of the San Juan National Forest). On night one we encounter a severe thunderstorm and must re-assess our situation. We work it out though and wind up spending 3 nights in the wilderness total although maybe not consecutively. Watch to find out what happens! The scenery is beautiful. I cannot wait to explore more of Colorado.
If you'd like to support the channel and have access to exclusive Q&A's, photos, behind the scenes footage and more...please consider becoming a Patron for as little as $1 a month. You will be offered different levels of incentives based on your donations. This helps me to create these videos for you and continue to improve quality, upgrade equipment and travel to epic locations. Thank you!

Many moons ago (1977) my brother, a few others and I backpacked up the Vallecito trail to Rock Creek trail, over the top to Moon and Half Moon, to Emerald Lake and on to Los Pinos (now called Pine River) trail and out to that trailhead. 5 days Counting 1 layover on Rock Creek. Had a car parked at each trailhead. My most memorable trip! This year my wife and I stayed at 30 mile campground and dayhiked the Weminuche trail a couple miles in. Thanks for jogging my memory! Oh, rain and hail back then. But only 3 or 4 hours once. And back then no dead pines from the pine bark beetle. Thanks again!!!

Rain is the reason we always take a tarp shelter & pole system. We face the tent doors towards the center of the Kelty or whatever tarp we bring and can still be outside our tents even in a downpour! It's worth the extra weight, especially on a flat hike like the river.

Beautiful area......trail looks good....the river....and the bridges too. I am a big fan of rain and even the volitale weather...so just love it that the mountains have their own weather agenda......Love seeing the flowers and their colors also. From the perspective of my still being in a virus environment and seeing all this nature...including the bees you showed.....it is just great to see that "nature" has a mind of it's own and going forward as it always has.... thanks.

Very typical Colorado weather...when I was In the San Juans, 2 years ago in June,...it would be sunny till the afternoon and then the storms would roll in. Rain, thunder and lightning....a normal Colorado day. Love your CAT hat...its you all the way. That Pine River camp site was sweet. I would love to hang to there for a couple of days and get some great fishing in. You passed a LOT of sweet looking fishing water. Thanks for taking along for the trip....Ill need to check out this area for myself. Happy Trails to you and Christine...

What a beautiful trail. Had not heard of this one. Looks like a great one for someone venturing back into backpacking after a few decades away? I enjoy your adventures with your niece. What a special relationship you have 💖 Btw, you inspired me on my tent, pack, and sleep pad choices...easy, cozy, light and comfy! I opted for a 20 degree quilt and a Big Agnes liner which, together are super warm without being heavy to carry and can be used separately for warmer trips. I've always said that if this is the place I die and this is the last thing I see on Earth that I'm ok with that. This is one of those places. I call these places " Meadows in Heaven". A friend of mine calls me an Ewok because I get very excited for forests and woodlands. I am a desert guy but love the forest just the same. These days I really don't think I can do the 14 miles I used to do so I go in as far as my Jeep will take me and I hike a few miles in and out from there in a lot of places. Just an amazing and wonderful vid. I loved it. Keep living the good life . Cheers!

I don’t own a recent Gramin, but I did some checking. Weather data is collected from nearby airports of your location and data is collected once ever twenty minutes. Garmin recommends leaving your Garmin on to collect weather data. Also reception is reduced in rain but that has more to do with water on the antenna. Aircraft rely heavily on Weather data in bad weather in low altitudes, so in part maybe their antennas are dry at high speeds. Clouds interfere some but very little in reception, not enough for you to not receive weather. So my guess is you might try to be creative with keeping Garmin antenna drier when trying to get weather and waiting at least 30 minutes run time. I love thunder.

Thanks for that. I’ve tried using it in cloud cover and also in deep canyons and it sometimes won’t work. It says it needs a clear view of the sky. I’ll experiment next time by waiting some time.

Another quick note....wow! All the images just pop with color and clarity. I've not seen such crisp images anywhere. Absolutely lovely.❤️. Excellent composition, too. Well done. 👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

You couldn’t have picked a better trail than the Los Pinos for getting into the Weminuche for the first time. Did this trail with a side trip to Emereld Lake 10 years ago with a bit of fly fishing thrown in too. Thanks for the memories! Since I’m missing Colorado this summer the next best thing to being there is this video and those to come. Hope you spend all summer seeing all Colorado has to offer 🤞
