Thanks Catherine. I just spent some time this morning unpicking an old buisness shirt of my husbands, to make him a new one with some beautiful Egyptian shirting cotton I came across and the cutting points you highlight are going to come in very handy. I will follow your steps and make sense of what I learnt from deconstructing the commercially made shirt. Thanks so much. You’re amazing ❤

I just love this tutorial! Thank you for your pacing and detailed explanations. I wish Simplicity (the big four) would start sponsoring videos like these. It would really encourage a lot of makers like me that are self taught and KZbin taught sewists. I appreciate the time and care you put into this tutorial. My husband loved the shirt. It’s nice to have a more formal option than M6044 (which he also loves!!) Tock Custom does a great video of that one. I look forward to your next make!!

So many clever tricks for working with plaid! Thank you. I have a shirt pattern similar to this that I’m intimidated by (it’s *just* outside my skill set but wanted to grow… ), so this is super helpful. ETA: I just finished watching this; you explain things so well and I’m so glad I found this before starting my shirt. That yoke bit would have been impossible without a visual. I’ve just subscribed to your channel. 😊

I bought the M8415 pattern yesterday without knowing about your tutorial. I got home and found you and I feel so lucky! I watched all the videos but haven't started yet, but I can't wait to sew along with you. I have never done a collar before but I know that I will be in good hands with your detailed instructions. Thank you for putting this out there! :)

Thank you so much for this video and all your others. For the first time, I am making a shirt with this yolk, and I know for certain that I wouldn’t have been able to make sense of the written instructions. Following your video, it turned out perfect, I’d go as far to say it’s magic (that’s how I described it to my husband). Now for the next video and collar!

I love your videos and have picked up so many great tips! I don't have a serger, but I have a decent Brother sewing machine with lots of stitch options. It would really help me if you talked about what stitch to use on the sewing machine as an alternative option. I find that topic confusing, and I am not sure if some projects really require serging or not. You are such a great teacher, and I appreciate how you are able to explain things in simple terms for those of us trying to be sustainable and make beautiful pieces!

I hate to be a know-it-all, but this is the original burrito yoke method as taught by Margaret Islander. She introduced the burrito concept to home sewers. I have her shirt making DVD. Amazing. Catherine - this is a great video. I'm not cringing as I watch. So many bad techniques are propagated on YT. Super enjoyable to watch. Now I want to make a button shirt for myself. I just came across your channel. I am subscribing. Thanks again. Kay in Dallas, Texas

It will not move if you use school glue to hold it. A hot dry iron will help set the school glue. The school glue will wash out later.

Why grade instead of cut all layers in one pass if the objective is to eliminate bulk?
@ladyflimflam
@ladyflimflam Жыл бұрын
If you cut them all the same length you still have the same bulk. Grading makes a gentle hill instead of a bump.

Catherine I have subscribed and watched for months. Something has been bothering me. Since your friend does most of the sewing sh9ouldn't you add her name to the videos so she also would get prestige..and be paid from KZbin. It seems only fair for both of you..and such a blessing!
