What you are using for the waistband is petersham, not grosgrain. They are often confused but petersham has the scalloped edge where grosgrain has the straight edge. Petersham is much more moldable and is better for garment construction where grosgrain is more suited for decorative things.

Hi Catherine, another beautiful upcycle. I've been upcycling today for a grandchild. I've made the 6 month old baby boy a pair of joggers out of his 4 year old brothers old camouflage trousers. Baby hasn't perfected his crawl yet and does a commando slither across the floor. Thankyou for all the skills I've learnt from your channel. Christine

Oh my gosh! You make things look so doable to me, a new sew-at-home goddess! Thank you thank you thank you for presenting your topic clearly and in lingo I understand and speak. Do you know that your spirit shines through via your videos? It do, it do, all the way to this Chicago area gal❤

Nice ASMR. I love the sound of the steam iron. It reminds of my childhood. On Sunday evenings my mom would pull out the ironing board and press all the laundry while watching Murder, She Wrote.

I am rather double minded on the whole sewing over pins thing. But I'd never heard (or realized) that a mechanical machine will stop where a computerized machine will freak out. Thanks! Learn something new every day! Also.- very cute skirt!

Catherine that is a cool up-cycle and it goes so nicely with the new sweater! Double win! 🏆

Clever re-style. Ironically, I just removed those kind of pockets from a pair of nice fitting pants as I don't need accents at my hips! The pockets moved to the back side & really made a nice addition. Thanks for your insight on recovering clothing instead of discarding them.

I love the way you styled it. Your scarf and heels popped nicely. Not a fan of pockets that hang below the hem, but to each his own.

Love the skirt. Love it with the sweater. I also love to up -cycle. I was wondering if you ever thought about doing a show about things to look for in the sewing area. Quilting ruler, sewing machine needles. Seam and twill tape, new zippers. Basic patterns, which are helpful, interfacing,, buttons . Ok I have even found a sewing machine, but unless you have knowledge, I might suggest to move on. Point is you are in the thrift shop, so take a look and here is what to look for.
@lcatt6940Ай бұрын
For the bottom of the pocket... Is there a reason you couldn't have flipped the pocket down and sewed that bottom part to the skirt with the machine before flipping the pocket back into place and sewing machine he rest?

Anothe winner! I have to say, it was a good thing you went step-by-step on the pocket, because I couldn't picture how it was going to turn out until it was almost done. I loved the ribbon trick for the waist of the skirt. Would bias tape work if I don't have ribbon?
@mammastreed5070Ай бұрын
Wow! I love this! You are so right those dresses are plentiful. How would it look a bit longer, not sure I could wear a skirt quite that short. You crush it though! The sweater looks awesome with it as well. Can’t wait to try either or both up cycles! Thanks again for a wonderful video!
@roses4me54Ай бұрын
What would you call that style of pocket? Cargo? Safari? Love it, really different and love the material.
@katherinegolightly271Ай бұрын
I love this! Do you think this might work with a skirt that needs an alteration to widen it around the waist and hips? If I use the bottom part of the skirt which is already wider and use the top section to create pockets? I think I would prefer (for my shape) the back panel to be in line with the pockets and the offset hem only at the front. What do you think?
@CatherineSewsАй бұрын
@@katherinegolightly271 that sounds brilliant!

Love your videos and they are so inspiring! I will love to know a little more about the type of school where you teach(w/o the specific location for safety) and how you get into that kind of teaching position...is it college level or high school level? Seems like a great opportunity...As a teacher myself, I see a great need to bring this as an elective for students...just wishful thinking. But love your content always! Thanks for sharing your expertise❤.

@Catherine Sews a while back you made up an entry by way of the pocket video. I have a skirt and culottes that close this way. I told an acquaintance about it tonight and can’t find the video you made. I want share it with her please tell me what you called that one. I think you made it on pants.
@DoReMeaCulpaАй бұрын
I think you forgot to mention that when stitiching the pockets to the skirt, you have to flip the lining out of the way first, so you are not catching the lining in that stitching. Odd to have pockets hanging below the skirt, imo, but I do love a good cargo pocket.
@CatherineSewsАй бұрын
@@DoReMeaCulpa You’re right, I mentioned that in the pinning but not in the sewing!
