Let's have more Cardinal Burkes. Thank God for this Cardinal. Indeed the call of beauty is the call of God 'for us to unite ourselves with His Son in His sacrifice.

Amazing! Who would have thought - even a few years ago - that a Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church would be talking about the "Old Mass" in these terms?

In my archdiocese, the Latin language parish is run by the Institute of Christ the King. The High Mass there is filled with young people, families, and children. And money is pouring in...

The Tridentine Mass only started to be a code in 1570. I agree that this should be preserve. But I also agree with the use of Novus Ordo because it uses the vernacular language. In using the vernacular language, we will be able to pray by our hearts. Using the Latin Language will take time for some to understand it. Others will not even take time to study the language. It is just like what Jesus said in the Bible about people who are praying repetitively but not using their hearts. To make Jesus Christ the center of the celebration, just focus in the Eucharist. I am thinking of the format of Tridentine Mass but with a vernacular language.

Not really. The Tridentine mass basically codified the mass at the time. Anyone going to mass hundreds of years before 1570 would recognize it after. There was never any such thing as Eucharistic Prayer II, Versus Populem orientation, communion standing in the hand, no kneeling at the incarnation and many other things until Vatican II and the period thereafter.

Paulo Padilla I totally agree with this suggestion. I also think that the Tridentine mass should be offered more frequently and more freely in Catholic Churches today. But I don't think it's benefitting the congregations to have a Tridentine mass completely in Latin. Vernacular language should be used in the readings, the homily and some other parts of the mass, while preserving some parts of it in Latin. Also, I would like for priests who celebrate the Tridentine mass to say most of their prayers aloud. I think this will enable the congregation to participate with their hearts and minds. How can the congregation participate in the celebration of the Eucharist (the very essence of church life) if they can't understand what the priest is saying?

You should look up the Anglican Use liturgy. A Catholic liturgy for Anglican converts which is essentially the Tridentine Mass but in English. That's what is needed. Except for a few prayers that can be kept in latin (Angus Dei, Sanctus, Gloria).

Dear Steve, The opening quotation is from "Summorum Pontificum" by His Holiness, Benedict XVI. We no longer need any bishop to allow anything. Find yourself a brave, holy, and dedicated priest who would offer these mysteries for all of you of like mind. And enjoy! Blessed Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Call out to her - she will hear your prayer!

No.. No you are very wrong. Some of the first icons originated from as early as the 2nd century, in the EASTERN AREA, Armania, the Church's of the East. The Roman Church installed statuary and icons when they went to convert the Roman Empire.

Because the Mass of Paul VI is equally, and in many cases far more guilty of abuse. Of course it wasn't perfect, but the point he's making is that it isn't old die-hard Catholics who enjoy the Tridentine Rite, it's young men and women, young priests; the abuse of the past is unimportant in that context, because we look towards the hope of the future, not the rot of the past.
