The intention is not to destroy body but be humble and focus on Jesus Christ. God blessed body of people and it is temple of Holy Spirit. But in fasting is focus on not preformance of achievements (to not eat) but focus is to give more space for Jesus in areas of life where we are bounded.

you're going in the wrong direction Rich. The roman catholic system is pagan, and has changed very little from the roman empire that conquered lands and assimilated all those pagan beliefs. There is no scriptural basis for a pope, a doctrine of Mary being sinless, indulgences, purgatory, praying the rosary, praying to and for the dead, priests being single, papal infallibility etc.......all these teachings are heresy, and you're moving away from God if you embrace all that nonsense that can be shown to be wrong from the bible.

@@misspeach3755 do you realise when Jesus taught about prayer, He warned against using "vain repetitions" ? That is exactly what the rosary is. Do you honestly think that God is interested in hearing the same repetition over and over and over again ? If someone talked to you that way, how would you respond ? throw your rosarey in the bin and talk to God the way you would talk to anyone else, but with reverance. Mary is nothing to do with salvation either. She was not sinless and that can be proved in the bible very easily.

Also go to daily mass as often as possible to receive holy communion (Eucharist), but remember to receive the Eucharist in the mouth not in the hand. Before Vatican II, only the priest could touch the holy Eucharist with his hands because his hands were consecrated when he was ordained to the priesthood.

You can overcome it! Try and recognize the causes of your depression and make and effort to avoid those things. Sometimes our own living circumstances can lead to depression, even I was depressed until I got married and moved out of my parents’ house. Having my own space helped greatly alleviate my depression. So if these kinds of things are causing depression, have hope that this overwhelming feeling will go away at some point. Ask God frequently for help and do not be afraid to do so! Remember that all the saints persevered through their whole life and none of them committed suicide. Strive to make your life a reason for people around you to consider you a saint and possibly be even canonized by the Church. God bless you abundantly 😁😁😁😁😁😁 YOU GOT THIS!!!!!!! 😄😄😄

Sabbath is no longer for us to keep, otherwise we would ruin the 6th commandments, which says: DO NOT KILL! Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: it is the sabbath or the 6th commandment. Cant have both. Souls, know and understand the bible as we all should: 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The 2 most important commandments for us to keep TODAY are: Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:39 “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” but you , the listeners of all these “religious lessons” all blind, devil gives out himself through the hand signs of masonry. You are still deceived by lucifer and his angelic look and having lack of knowledge about the truth. Time is passing away, the clock inside each of your chest are ticking. Also a good way to fast in your 70's is to fast from any prepackaged or convience foods. Eat only one ingredient foods. As an example , home prepared chicken, not breaded chicken tenders. You can use seasonings, as long as they are simple ingredients. Like salt, pepper, garlic , onion, oregano, sage. Avoid seasoning like old bay or Lawry's season salt. Fresh green beans, instead of canned or frozen green beans. Home baked potato instead of french fries. Real butter instead of butter substitute. Read labels, if it has an ingredient list, avoid it. Example Ingredients: salt, silicone dioxide = avoid Ingredients: salt = good Ingredients: cream, milk = good Ingredients: cream, guar gum, carrageenan, high oleic oil, flavoring = avoid God bless you!

The Church is very wise in her teachings. Fasting is a way for the body to heal, and it makes our minds sharper, and our senses more attuned to the gifts that come from God, such as food, when we do eat. We instinctively say a prayer of thanksgiving for all the good things He gives us. Thanksgiving in turn intensifies love, praise and adoration of God, which are all graces that He is send us. All is gift, all from our loving God! A holy Lent to one and all! 🙏

Thank you, Fathers, for speaking clearly and with the love of God, about the true meaning of fasting! Excellent! This gives us so much hope! We loved it when Fr. Norbert said, "It's the GREAT FAST in preparation for the GREAT FEAST!" Also, when he said that we should put our trust in God with our fasting. Yes! Little children need to be taught to fast as well. This is totally lost in our culture. Children are more resilient than people think.

Complex. But, to simplify, abstinence from meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, wine and olive oil for the duration of the fast. On certain days, the fast may be mitigated, in which case, fish and oil are allowed. That's the ideal, towards which all ought to strive. We recognize that not everybody is at the same point in their spiritual pilgrimage, so the actual rule followed by each individual should be determined through prayer and discernment with one's spiritual fathers. Mine once told me, "Do as much as you think you can do--and a little bit more. Next year, try for more than that". The purpose of fasting is to gain mastery over our passions, not to punish ourselves. If you are fixating on what you put in your mouth, you're doing it wrong. And you should always remember that Lent is a three-legged stool, of which fasting is just one leg, the others being prayer and almsgiving. In the Eastern Churches, there are a host of special Lenten services (mostly in the evenings), including the Akathist Hymn, the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete, and, above all, the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts (because we do not celebrate the Eucharist on weekdays during Lent). If you get the opportunity, attend at least one of these.@@pingupenguin2474

@@StuartKoehlyou don’t celebrate the Eucharist on weekdays? Like there’s not actual mass? Or you don’t physically receive the Eucharist into your body?
@StuartKoehl10 ай бұрын
The Tradition of the Byzantine Churches, Orthodox and Catholic alike, is not to celebrate the Divine Liturgy (Mass) on weekdays (Exception: If Annunciation falls within Lent, the Divine Liturgy is celebrated on the Feast Day). Instead, we celebrate the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, which is essentially Great Vespers with a Communion service attached. We then receive particles of Christ's Body and Blood consecrated the previous Sunday, that we will not be deprives of the Food of Immortality.@@shawna94henry70

ST. BASIL THE GREAT: “Take heed that you do not make fasting to consist only in abstinence from food. True fasting is to refrain from vice. Shred to pieces all your unjust contracts. Pardon your neighbors. Forgive them their trespasses.” ST. FRANCIS DE SALES: “Everyone paints devotion according to his own passions and fancies. A man given to fasting thinks himself very devout if he fasts, although his heart may be filled with hatred. A man doesn’t dare wet his tongue with wine or even water, yet he won’t hesitate to drink deeply of his neighbor’s blood by slander, vilification and gossip. Another man thinks himself devout because he daily recites a vast number of prayers, but after saying them he utters the most disagreeable, arrogant and harmful words at home and among his neighbors.”

@@kyrieeleison1243 Not an excuse, it's Catholic doctrine. After a certain age and if one has certain physical conditions (diabetes, for instance), one is not obligated to fast. That doesn't mean one shouldn't find other ways to observe Lent. The Church does not require us to put our lives in danger for Lent, that's not its point.
@kyrieeleison124310 ай бұрын
@@Melanie220 Firstly, it's not Catholic doctrine, it's current obligation under Canon Law. Second, you seem to have missed the point of the video which is calling for generosity rather than minimum observance and looking for loopholes. Everyone can fast, no matter age or health status. You simply do it in proportion to your ability under those conditions. Generously.
@Melanie22010 ай бұрын
@@kyrieeleison1243 Did you actually read my entire comment, or were you just too intent on jumping all over me for my slight misstep in calling it doctrine rather than law? Here, I'll help you: "That doesn't mean one shouldn't find other ways to observe Lent." Having a condition that makes it dangerous or even just ill-advised to fast is not an excuse. It's a fact of life that one with the condition or situation just needs to work with, and the Church has made allowance for that. Have a blessed evening.
