This is such an excellent conversation which rings so true for me as a father. It truly is as simple as you said in the definition from St. Thomas Aquinas. Our role as parents is pirmarily to instruct our children on how to worship God the liturgy, as part of the Christian family here on earth so that they might participate one day, God-willing, in the Eternal liturgy of Heaven. Make that the priority and you are really giving your children something priceless.

My family structure broke from the heavy burden of financial obligations and everyone scattered trying to survive, leaving no time for worship. I pray for young families to be able to stay together.

Thank you for this Padre's. Somehow, we need to bring back affordable Catholic schools and also have proper catechesis for our children and families. We also need more traditional, faithful, Priest's and Nun's. Viva Cristo Rey!

I looked at a local Catholic school, in addition to be 10k/per year for one child. I doubt authentic Catholic faith was being taught. The institutions have overwhelmingly fallen.

As a Catholic school teacher I know there is tuition assistance for families that struggle financially (at least at my school). I'd say go to open house and ask questions, maybe ask for a tour of the school. Some schools are great and others aren't. Being part of the staff it made realize how much I was missing out as a kid and could've deepened my faith through being in a catholic bubble. Also catholic school week is this week (Jan 27-31st) so this a great time to sneak peek the schools around you.

Tuition assistance for Catholic schools is sorely lacking for middle class families. Paying $1000/ month for two children (and there are three more school age children in our family besides those two) is not doable for most, yet that is half price off regular tuition in my area of exactly average cost of living. We homeschool but I fear in most ways that is subpar. At least they have less chance of losing their faith in public school. Or for that matter, losing their faith while paying $1000/month on what has now become basically a secular education with a Catholic name. It is not easy home educating five children of all different ages at the same time. There is no help from the Church in trying to raise a Catholic family. They’ve left us on our own.

So thankful we have a nourishing Latin mass community in my city. The normal car is a 15 passenger van, lol.

I would like to know the High Mass that you were referring to. I went to the Abbey on Wednesday, and the Mass was beautiful in the Ordinary Form (although I was hoping it was the Extra Ordinary Form). I thought the High Mass and Low Mass were only in the Extra Ordinary Form. Please enlighten me. Thanks!

13:25 at the risk of going off topic I think this is a modern day scourge in the church...........parents allowing their screaming infants to just have at it during mass. I see this all the time and it disturbs the mass and the congregation, not to mention the priest. I dont know why Priests put up with this, maybe theyre afraid of offending parents, but something needs to be done, offense or no offense. I used to be protestant and before the sunday service would even begin, the pastor would make an announcement asking parents to take their child or children outside if those children become unsettled during the service. They had an area outside the main auditorium which was equipped with speakers the parents who needed to step outside with the unsettled child, could still hear the service. And this worked really well, anytime a child became unsettled and started to cry or scream or make noise, the parents would immediately take the child outside. And I really dont know why they dont do this in the catholic church, its so simple a request to make. Before mass even begins the priest should make this announcement so that mass can be a peaceful and the congregation dont have to listen to screaming children. Its win win, the parents of the unsettled child still gets to hear the mass, the priest can concentrate on the matter at hand and the congregation can focus on God in peace and quiet. And also a simple announcement before mass about turning off phones or putting them on silent because this is another thing thats rampant in the catholic church, but never happens in the protestant service, because they make a simple announcement before the service even begins.
