"CATIA's user interface looks like a Windows 95 computer" My man is spitting nothing but facts.

Looks more like a Unix environment, to me.
@gottagowork3 ай бұрын
@@johntomasik1555 According to wiki, development started inhouse in 1977. Version 1 was released 1981. Was ported from one to four Unix systems in 1996, and was completely rewritten to version 5 for Windows NT in 1998. I remember being "stationed" at a design and manufacturing site in my young years, where some insane Catia stations were used. Two main 21" CRT screens and a smaller one for the secondary computer, an input device containing levers and wheel iirc in addition to regular mouse, a regular and special keyboard. Wildly impressive for a nerd kid back in the day. I didn't have the training (obviously) to work on those, but I did get to do drafting on some DOS based AutoCAD version. Today, some 30+ years later, I use Solidworks (and Blender for rendering) at work. Can't see myself as a Catia or Siemens NX user for what I do.

I am an expert in SOLIDWORKS. My opinion is if it has wheels or wings, CATIA is the way to go. Otherwise, the power behind the intuitive and fast software makes SOLIDWORKS have a greater ROI for most companies. My other opinion is that in a decade, both of these softwares will be phased out as 3DExperience is further developed, even if it isn’t the best platform today. All three of these softwares are developed by the same company, and they are pushing very hard with the cloud based CAD systems

Why specifically wings or wheels? I assume you're saying CATIA is better for things that do a certain type of motion? What makes CATIA better at that?
@adaml9292 жыл бұрын
@@fulldonkeymode8837 Well, three big reasons. First, CATIA is simply industry standard with those industries, so there would be less file converting between companies and manufacturers. Second, CATIA has what should be considered a superior surface modeling and sculpting tool. Third, CATIA assemblies work really well with motion, which isn't to say SOLIDWORKS doesn't because SOLIDWORKS is occasionally bought by companies just to have a tool that can send animations of future products to marketing, but I believe that CATIA works better with that type of cyclical motion and with assemblies at the scale of the automotive industry (many thousands of parts), so your assumption is correct. It does have a higher learning curve because its interface isn't anywhere near as intuitive as SOLIDWORKS. Ease of use for all of its many many tools is something that SOLIDWORKS really works on. Side note, 3DEXPERIENCE will continue to take the best parts of both platforms and run it in a cloud based system.

@wait I would contact your SolidWorks reseller and inquire about SOLIDWORKS CONNECTED. It's like regular SOLIDWORKS but based on the cloud so as things go more cloud based you are future-ready.

I have been using Fusion for the last 4 years and in that time it has gone from a half decent program to a piece of trash due to moronic software changes. It has taught me that cloud based is terrible. I don't see how cloud based should become predominant, it is almost all downsides. I recently obtained Solidworks desktop and at first glance it is structured very differently to Fusion and i find it unintuitive. Straight away there have been issues, the supplier has sent me over 30 emails just to get started with the right product. When someone sends me a file the file is empty. Scans lack shading variation making them much more difficult to interpret. They deleted the on screen view cube making it much slower and tedious to use. I now learn that parametric modelling cannot be turned off, which makes it a no go for me. So i am trying to work out my next step.

This is a very good explain about the uses and the power of each software. I'm personally started with draft sketch --> AutoCAD --> Inventor --> Solidwork (until now) And I'm about to try NX soon to see if it fit my need then solidworks or will Solidworks be my professional skill.😂 Note: I only have one year experience but it's pretty good so far. I hope every starter in CAD design will see this video. Thanks you

Wow, one year of experience is almost like having all the basic knowledge you need to gather before making your final decision if that's a future you want. Good start man.

Looking into a sponsorship for SIEMENS NX for my FSAE team. We currently use Solidworks for all of our modeling. Do you think it will be worth to acquire Siemens NX?

NX seems to be the next big thing but they are strict on payments for the sofware and Certification.

I do 3D modeling (Maya). But I can't draw or even do basic sketch. It is limiting me from creating my own original concepts. I model by placing Orthographic images but I have to rely on other 2D artists work for that . Is there software that will help someone who can't draw do basic sketching? I wanted to become Matte painter but didn't pursue it because of my inability to draw or paint

I had a French colleague watch the video before I posted it. His feedback was " you bet, cashia??" And he gave me a really weird smile. I didn't know what that meant until you pointed it out. Thanks for the correction.

Every engineer is from a rich home. These software cost nothing to them. I have a friend who has more than two of these expensive cad software on his computer and he's always working so it kinda cuts it for the cost. Good review by the way.

Well yesn't. The licenses for students are somewhat affordable, but the licenses for a company are extremely pricey.
