@scheherazadenoir59504 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris. Just a REALLY loooooooooong suggestion from an old rescuer: here's some things some OG rescue ladies and groomers taught me when I was starting out, a really good way to clean up a dirty face and body before you can do a total immersion bath is a warm wet washcloth wrung out somewhat and imitating a mommy tongue bath, clean the face and head. Make eye contact and SLOWLY SQUEEZE your eyes shut and just as SLOWLY open them. This is a nonverbal communication that cats use that says "I'm harmless, relax". You can keep doing it while you're working with the kitty. It's soothing for the skittish and helps them to embrace your further handling them. I found that using baby washcloths for the face which are smaller and softer are easier to handle and you can scrub a little harder with them without discomfort in the dirty places. A regular wash cloth the same way warm to hottish wrung out and rubbed over the body coat as vigorously as the cat will allow almost always winds up with a purring relaxed kitty. Go in the direction of the fur first, using a grooming type movement and they'll usually settle down as if they're being groomed by another cat. Also, I'd add a child's toothbrush to the dirty cat grooming sessions, it works really well to clean snotty nose crusties, eye "tinkies" as an old buddy of mine called them and dirty muzzles and heads. It's also a good way to apply flea/skin shampoo or treatment safely without getting into the eyes. I may have missed it but I think y'all should add some eye ointment (non-medicated) to your bath kit. We never bathed any animal at the vet hospital without doing this. But remember, always in the direction of the fur first then you can do a little more vigorous scrubbing. A baby's hairbrush which is very flexible is excellent for scrubbing dirty spots without irritating the skin and pushing the cat's patience with too long of a session. When you're washing flea riddled kitties I learned to take the soap and apply it undiluted straight from the bottle around the ears and a little just where the forehead fur gets thin and the nostrils (carefully) this stops the fleas from crawling into the cat's ears and nose which makes them scratch themselves bloody around the face, continuously shake their heads or sneeze themselves silly from the fleas crawling out as they're being dried. I also apply the same around the rectum, being careful not to get any inside the tender tissue, because the fleas will crawl in there as well. ALWAYS bag up these cloths until you can wash them THOROUGHLY in hot water so you don't infest your home. Do NOT wash these cloths with your regular clothes. I'm probably telling you stuff you already figured out but just in case, cause oldheads, right?😁 I hope that's something that you can use. Great work btw, keep it up! 🧓🏾🖖🏾💖

Thanks for teaching this old dog a new trick! I've had cats since I was 11, I'm now 65 and I never thought of that tip about the shampoo around "tender spots". I would imagine this would be extremely difficult to get it just right tho...I'd probably leave it for a professional myself.
