@h.s.62695 жыл бұрын
I know someone who is facing that right now. She is losing her home in a divorce and she can't find any affordable homes that will accept her dog. I can't have a dog because of my 4 cats (2 really old) or I would offer to keep her. I'm dearly hoping her son and his wife will take both her and the dog in until she gets on her feet. It is a terrible thing to have to consider to put your pet in a shelter especially after she had rescued the dog from there years ago. Despite my protests regarding the cats we may end up taking the dog in if there aren't any other options. I can't imagine having to take a pet to the shelter.

I know right? My mom was a super catlady, she always brought home kitten that was abandoned and i have the duty to searching for owner for them. Last month my mom save 3 kittens, 4 teen cats, and 2 adult. Fortunately i found some amazing peoples who want to raise them, so i just have 1 more female teen cat open for adoption. Oh, and i originally raise 3 males cats that's why i have to find owner for the rest. And i was thinking like, why people need to abandon cats if they can find owner for them? There's so many peoples who want a cat.
@dimasakbar76685 жыл бұрын
@@h.s.6269 true, its better to find people who would adopt them, or to foster them. Sometimes putting in shelters is essentially just like abandoning animal in the wild, its a "convenient" way to let go of former pet without having to personally see them getting killed. Anyway, bless your kind heart for harboring your friends dog, i hope the cats learn to get along.

A sign that these cats were formerly domestic is how much they chat! Cats that live with humans hear us talking and talk back, whereas cats that are feral really only communicate when they're mating or defending territory or when they're kittens. Chatting for the heck of it is a behavior they usually grow out of, unless they're talking with people.
@ArisSafari984 жыл бұрын
@@expiredmilk7324 that is NOT true! Cats dont actually need to meow. In the animal kingdom it isnt necessary. They only do it to communicate with humans on how they feel and to communicate with us. Not just "cause they want something"

Years ago when I first moved to Dallas, the couple in the apartment under me got a black and white kitten for their little girl. When they moved out they left the cat. I couldn't imagine that. Anyway the cat just hung around. He had known nothing else. The guy that moved into that apartment was a real crazy dude. He sort of took care of the cat. I would see him on the balcony. He skipped out in the middle of the night. He left the cat too. I would see him here and there. Then January came around and it was a real cold one that years, I would see him on my door mat when I came home from work. He would run. I started putting out food for him. My cat was a male too. He wasn't real big on the idea of a roommate. I told him one night it was just brutally cold, that he would either have to let him stay or I'd take him to the shelter. After a few spats an hisses my boy settled down. They got to be good friends. They would wrestle but I wouldn't tolerate all out fighting. They got the idea. I had that stray for 16 years. He just went to sleep one night and didn't wake up. He had a rough first year but the rest of his life was with someone that loved and cared for him. He was my old man.

we had the same issue, December 2017, family in the neighborhood moved out, left their cat behind. He was an indoor cat, and they threw him out and left.He'd been out for 3 weeks when we found him and figured out he was abandoned. It was below zero at night which is colder than usual for us. On Christmas day, the offer of food and warm house won him over and he walked in the door, ate and curled up on the couch and went to sleep. by the morning he found his way to my bed. He's been here ever since.

Gotta share a story. (WARNING It Will be long, but I'd really like to tell it.) I once watched this situation unfold before my eyes. 95 year old lady next door had two cats. Nice cats too.. Big friendly ginger tomcat with a huge personality.. He bullied passing dogs.. And won the hearts of literally hundreds of uni students who would get off the bus outside his house and line up to give him a pat. And his sister from the next litter (As the story went) A slight and shy little medium length fur tricolor with the cutest face I ever saw. I always wanted to pat her, but never could. Little old lady loved those cats more than life itself. And they her. But, as little old ladys do, one day she took a fall. And off she went in an ambulance.. Never to return. She went straight from hospital into an aged care facility with no pets allowed. A decision forced upon her by her family. And as she was no longer there, the various carers and support people who had visited her stopped coming.. And soon, the only person feeding them was a grand neice who was quite vocal about hating cats.. She would visit with her two big dogs, throw some food in a bowl and leave. Then she stopped coming daily.. And soon it was only occasionally. I watched the tom get big... really big and tubby.. And when I did get a glimpse of the girl, she was fading fast. Barely a wisp of a thing. I'd made up my mind to ask about looking after the cats and the next time I was aware of people at the house I went on up the back stairs (Shared yard with easement) All the old lady's kids were there and the neice and a couple more. And the conversation I couldn't help but over hear as I climbed the staircase was about how old lady had threatened to take her revenge by leaving everything in her will including the house to the cats. These people were discussing the best way to get rid of the cats once and for all.. One of them saying "well she's nearly starved to death already and he would eat anything we put in that bowl" I knocked on the frame of the wide open door. "Hello" I said.. You can imagine the looks from around the room. Suppressing the urge to tell them what I really thought, I took advantage of the awkward silence to just say. "How about they come and live with me, and we just call them gone?" "Oh, you'd do that?".. "Just as soon as I can".. I left with a bag of cat food and the bowl. Cats are so intelligent.. They both knew mum wasn't coming back by now. I'd often sat on my front stairs and given the friendly tomcat a pat when he would visit. The very next day, I found him on the front steps and just said.. "Do you want to come in?" You could actually see the moment he decided.. A few moments later, my fluffy buddy from next door had moved in. She, was a much tougher nut to crack. She'd taken to living/skulking around under the porch next door. And we had no rapport to begin with. Efforts to coax her out with food were futile.. I actually wondered if she had just gone. But a few days later, I spotted her out laying under the big tree in her front yard. I tried, as I had so many times before over the years to inch over and give her a pat.. But this time was different. She mewed at me like a kitten.. I mean literally and exactly like a kitten.. This tiny little awkward squeak.. It surprised me coming from a full grown cat. Srry, screen got a bit blurry there.. Not sure what that's about. Must have had something in my eye. I realised that she wasn't going to slink away this time.. She was done. There just wasn't any fight left. All she had the energy left to do was make please don't hurt me noises... I picked up this cat skeleton in a tattered fur coat and took her home. Other than starving to death, she was riddled with fleas and my gal and I pulled 3 ticks off her. But she ate.. And because she could still eat, I knew she was just down and not out. It took two months or more to teach big bro that his bowl was his.. And her bowl was NOT for him lol.. And a few more months for him to get down to a healthy size for his already big tomcat frame. She.. just grew healthier and prettier every single day. Her coat long and soft. A sparkle in her little eyes that could melt my heart at 10 paces.. And a lovely perfectly normal adult cat voice. They had other names... But I called them Girly Girl and Mr Man. They completely moved in, I never once saw them even try to go into the house next door. And if you're wondering, I did visit the little old lady in the nursing home.. Told her the cats were happy and well. She told me which vet they had always gone to, and so I was fortunate that they had records going back to when they were kittens. She was 12 and he 13 when I got them. Those cats lived to be 27 and 28 years old. (Yeah I know.. ridiculous) In their later years, every time we went to the vet, we seemed to get a new young veterinarian who would look at the computer.. look at the cat.. look at me... look at the computer and say.. Is this right? "Yep"... :) Wow... I loved those cats, and the love they gave back helped me through some tough times. They might be the best friends I ever had. And I couldn't measure how much they made my world a better place every single day. I wept like a child when I bid them farewell. I did it again just now, with the fondest of memories. Watching this vid reminded me of my old friends.. And I wish these two trailer park cats and their new humans a long and happy life. If you made it this far, thanks for letting me share my story.

We have this grey/white cat and she is the oldest cat we have (13 I believe) and she is scared of our I believe 4 year old black/brown cat (I don’t know why she’s scared of that one when she’s bigger then her and older) and it’s annoying and sad because we barely see the other cat because of her and she only comes back like for 3 days if the other cats we have are inside and disappears for like 3 months. But she is alright with our kitten (1 years old), she hisses at him from time to time but if he doesn’t get too close it’s fine.

@padme25524 жыл бұрын
Freja Karolina if someone is so poor or if someone has a mental or physical disability, so bad that they can no longer care for their animal, there is no shame in taking it to a shelter. would you rather they try to take care of it but it starts to starve or get sick? people shouldn't get animals on a whim, but maybe it's their childhood pet and they just can't take care of it anymore for whatever reason, it's perfectly responsible to take it to a shelter. dumping it on the side of the road is irresponsible, not taking it to a shelter.

All assumptions. We do not know how they wound up on the streets, and it is assumed a dump, perhaps after elderly owner died. But there are always possible reasons we never thought of, even a house fire or other disaster, or there is no human family left alive. So instead of trying to blame people you never will know, why not just be happy these were treated so well when they did have a home and now that they are happy in a home alive again? GEE

What a nice story! Right before Christmas, I found a 17 year old cat at an estate sale. The owner had died, and no one had claimed him. It had snowed the night before, and he was outside. He was cold and rail thin with matted fur. I got him and took him to the vet. They shaved most of the mats away. He isn't in great shape, but he has a place here to be warm and have plenty to eat. I have a lot of cats, so it is difficult. :)

On the fourth day I got a hammer and broke through my walls in two different places to get the kittens. No places I called would take them so I had to walk around trying to find people that wanted kittens. Thankfully I found a guy that took two of them and I knew he was a good guy cuz he was a friend of my neighbors and they’re great people. The other kitten went to the cop that lived two blocks away and I’ve never seen anything cuter than a tall large grown man cradling a kitten. I wish I could’ve kept them but my mother hates cats.

It depends on how old former owners are. My grandma was from 1908 and just "yoused to" live with animals at home. That had nothing to do with relationship or family members - just some "animals running around here". Her cats were never socialized, you couldn´t even touch them, hiding behind or under furniture all day long. Being afraid of a nerving dog guarding the house and some angry parrots in the living room... With persons about that age and point of view it´s difficult to argue. They came (and still some from the 1930ies do) from another world.

Such a great outcome Chris! You are one compassionate soul. Such a journey for them both. Hungry and cold. Then the incredible comfort of safety, warmth, a cosy bed, a full belly, and a loving hand. Then back to being scared at the vet poked and prodded. Then the insecurity and betrayal of being in the adoption place cages. Then finally, a Forever Home with a caring owner. What a journey! Love for animals is not just glib talk and sentiment. Its the follow through. The paying of vet bills. The constant vigilance to ensure your pet charges are safe and content. Its reaching out over and beyond to get them adopted. Its making room in your schedule to do all that. Bravo Chris, for being such a positive force in the world. I salute your dedication to cats!

In the 30 some years I've been married I've never bought a cat. We have adopted or been adopted many times and we've loved them all. One special lady, Katie appeared one day and stayed. When I came home from work she would gallop up to me to greet me and if I went anywhere on my property she would follow me and if I sat down she was in my lap like a shot. If I should get under something to work on it she was laying beside me demanding her scratches and moaning and purring like a chainsaw. When I was done and she thought I was going inside she would run ahead of me, run up the steps to our porch and stick her head through the pickets. She loved it when I butted heads with her. She would be so happy she would moan and groan and purr. She would get disappointed when I went inside but would wait near the door waiting for me to come outside. Good memory. Thanks.

There's a lot we can do about it. Encourage everyone you know to spay and neuter their pets. That way, when they lose a home, there is space in the shelters for them to go and find another home. The problem with strays is humans, not the strays. Fix us, we automatically fix the problems for animals. If shelters weren't always desperately in need of space because of endless litters of puppies and kittens, more animals would live rather than being euthanised.

Please never pass or ignore an animal in need. At least call a rescue shelter.

Irene Duke except for the fact that a lot of cats enjoy being outside and that many of those shelters KILL!

I have the saddest story about a kitten I found outside my old riding school. It was in the horseyard of a farmhouse, and it was so small, little pinkish-orange babbie. He was all convered in scabs and so thin, with gunked up eyes and nose. I put him in my car and drove across town, on the phone with my mother, "Where is the vet?!" and she was pulling out maps on the other end. I got to the vet, took the poor fella in, and was told he had cat flu and that it had advanced to such a stage that there was no other option but to put him down. I know it was the kindest thing to do -- he was probably in so much pain and it would be awful to prolong that -- but... ohhh. I am crying just remembering it. I have never felt so sad before. (Well, except for when my fiance died.) I just love animals. They are so special, and I always try to help them. But, sometimes... eeeh... you open your heart, you might get hurt sometimes. But it is the price you pay for having one. A heart is a precious thing -- don't throw yours away just to avoid a little hurt.

I live in NYC and feed cat colonies in bone chilling temperatures. My heart breaks when I have to leave them because I want to take them out of the cold. Bless you Chris. You have a heart of gold.

This brought tears to my eyes. When you said to Clarence ''you look snugly in there'' and he gave you a little meow and a slow eye blink, almost as if he was saying thank you. And Midnight walking up to you later in the store and was meowing like ''Hey that's my rescuer!''

At the vet “It’s gotta be done, I’m sorry” Clarence; “noooo” His eyes are very cute. I love his constant look of “woahhh”

That lady was so kind to try to make the cats warm and comfortable and feed when she couldn't keep them. I'm so glad there are wonderful people like these two in the world.

What a wonderful outcome for two adorable cats. First - a HUGE thank you to the woman who tried her best to keep them warm and called for help. She is an amazing person! And thank you Chris for helping these beautiful babies to further their journey to a new loving warm home. Finally, thanks to the woman who drove to adopt instead of shop. Wonderful people led to a wonderful outcome.

So cute!! Aww, Clarence is like “ hewwo hooman i is comfy “ We took in a fluffy older cat, she’s about 6-8. She’s super sweet and ever since we took her in- and her fur is SO much thicker! Same thing- spayed but no chip.

Same here! We took in a cute little guy who we think is about 6/7yrs old and the sweetest cat ever. He was also neutered, and no chip, but he was in very poor condition. He was covered in fleas so much that his skin was red and bleeding ): but he's good now! He eats good food and sleeps on our beds and couch 😊

I think that I have now watched this video about 15 times. Happy endings are SO appreciated when it comes to abandoned animals.
