Watching this again just a few days after losing a dear old friend, Dave Greenfield, to coronavirus. Fellow member of our pub quiz team, fellow re-enactor, fellow Dungeons and Dragons player, also sometimes known for some seriously good music. You were one of the good guys Dave. See you in Valhalla!

@@synchrome62 Late Anglo-Saxon/Viking/Early Norman period - broadly around AD 950 to 1066. He was a member of the local group of Regia Anglorum, which is called Grantanbrycg. If you've been a Stranglers fan for a long time you may just remember a time when he just occasionally would have a shield propped up somewhere near the keyboard. That was in red and black, the local group colours. Quite appropriate for the Stranglers! I made that shield. If I remember rightly it had a red raven painted on it - but it was a long time ago! If you're interested in that historical period, google Regia.org. to see the society now.

Brilliant find, they were rock'in that night, especially "I love the family" It also makes me realise how much I liked the La Follie album. It also made me do some maths, to me 1982 is like last week but its actually 40 fucking years ago! Thanks for sharing

To be fair- The Stranglers by 1990 with original line up were stagnating and had reached their natural end. The next 14 years were wilderness years and Baz joining in place of John Ellis lifted the band to something like their old selves- Albums Norfolk Coast and Suite XVI in particular being very good. The original line up could never be matched but Baz helped get the band become hugely popular again especially live and when you think of the song Relentless written by him it's up there as an all time classic
