It’s nice to use folders as busses so you can collapse them on the mixer

Just ditched an old Protools 10 HD rig for a new MTRX Studio HDX ultimate setup. Folders are my new best friend, thx!

Oh f yeah! Aren't folders handy? I feel like I took a little bit to get into them, and now I'm hooked.

Going back on your earlier work - I looked at heaps of nerd-erama on this - yours remains the easiest to follow and apply. Cool thanks.

[EDITED FOR CLARITY] My production partner noticed an important difference in Aux vs Routing folder behavior. If you already have Aux tracks with bus routing you like in your template, it's worth converting the Aux track to a Routing folder. Details below: If you've fastidiously crafted your I/O paths and work to preserve your bus menu hierarchy, then it's worth knowing that if you select a track and choose to move it to a new Routing Folder, a brand new bus path will be auto-generated i.e. it will now appear in your I/O menu as a new bus called "Routing Folder Name" E.g. moving a bass track to a new routing folder called "All Bass" will auto create a new bus path called "All Bass."* HOWEVER, If you already have an Aux track receiving your basses with the routing the way you like it, you can then convert said Aux track to a routing folder which will preserve the routing you already had in place and not populate your Bus menus with new additions. It's a small detail, but I hope this helps. 🎚🔥

This is great info, thanks! Is there a trick to converting an aux into a routing folder? Or do you just create the routing folder and drag everything over so to speak?

No prob! And no fancy trick. If you simply right click on the aux track name in the Edit or Mix window you'll see "Convert Aux to Routing Folder" as the third to last option in the dropdown menu. I guess the fancier option would be to make a custom button for it in the Avid Control App or other. Once created, you can drag the salient tracks into the routing folder (formerly aux track). Also, it's a small thing but I love that you can just click on the inputs and outputs of tracks and start typing the name of the bus you're looking for and hit enter as soon as the search dialog presents the result you need. Thanks for the solid content!

The worst thing about folders is recording is disabled when closing folders.
