Because they are not receiving the signal from the trainer to proceed. The cats are trained and I find that to be quite an accomplishment since cats are difficult to train compared to dogs.

A Tuxedo cat is more like your classic Sylvester, isn't it? Mostly black but with a white chest and belly, like a shirt. The non-tabby here is the kind of cat I generally call a Friesian, i.e. mostly white but with black patches, like the breed of cow of that name. Works for me, anyway. I don't think the cat minds as long as the food and the love keep coming :)

The little music at the end is from an educational Japanese children’s show (Pythagoras Switch). The show uses Rube Goldberg machines as bumpers between commercial breaks in similar fashion. This is honestly such a cute way to pay homage.

There doesn't seem to be any indication that the cats know when they've won, or that they have any idea what's going on. They just like to bat the marbles around. There were probably several dozen takes in which the cats did nothing, knocked the marbles the wrong way, or just up and left.
