If I play kittens meowing on my phone, my cat who is a mother will become very concerned and start looking for the kittens, and then since the sound is coming from my phone and I’m holding it, she will softly bite my hand and start pulling it away from the phone, as to “save” the kittens from my hold. lol. She is a good mommy, for sure.

I was waiting for a dog sound. It's not surprising they didn't react to most of the sounds; they don't have a context for most of those animals. Plus modern cats tend to tune out of our electronic soundscape after kittenhood - "if I can't smell it it's not real".

When I heard the first set of kitten meowing, I instantly knew it was Cole from Cole and Marmalade. I've watched that video multiple times. He had one of the cutest meows as a kitten~!

My older cat Mimi will meow, chirp and come running to me panicked whenever I play a video with a cat or kitten meowing in it. She always looks genuinely concerned. She doesn’t like other cats much and was never a mother but she has that motherly instinct. My younger cat Rosie couldn’t care less!!

Very cute. I used to play the same tricks with my cat too. He was intrigued the first 30 seconds, and like Milkshake and Smoothie figured it out within a minute where the sounds are coming from and it was not "real". Try birds in surround sound, the attenton stayed a little bit longer since it came from all 4 corners. Have fun! And thank you for sharing your lovely videos.

My cats used to respond dramatically to sounds like cat fights or hawks on the iPhone. But they figured out that my phone just makes weird noises that have nothing to do with reality and they ignore it now. That's what makes testing a cat's hearing a tad challenging. Once they decide a noise is normal, they ignore it. I was trying to test the hearing of an elderly cat with a cat fight screech and both he and the younger one refused to respond. (Another reason to always have two cats, so you can use one as a control before getting worried.) I got ear twitching from him only when he was half asleep.... The only exception is if I record their voices in Voice Memo and play it back for them. They like to listen to themselves.
