My brother always said, you never know how much it blows till you have to use a boat. Wind can be strange on the water, it can change speed and direction with tide changes, pick up or cam out due to temperatures, humidity and so on. My grandfather taught us as kids going out on skiffs, time yourself out, it takes that long or longer to get back, know your water, guts creeks etc., i case you need to wait out. He said the weather can be just like your grandmother, never know what it's doing, lol....

I'm new to your channel, what I didn't see is a run down on your boat set up. If you do have one out already then I'll look for it but if not can you do one. I'm looking at the grizzly 17 foot side console, I'm going to stick to the rivers and maybe edge of the bay on nice days.
@OutdoorsInMaryland3 жыл бұрын
No I haven't yet, but I sure will. I have a xpress 18ft. Xplorer series. 2012. 70 hr Love my boat a lot, it fits everything I need for the water. I would definitely pick and choose days on the bay. But I don't have any problems on any river especially the one here on the eastern shore of Md.

@@OutdoorsInMaryland Thanks, we're about 30 min from the bay in Howard County, MD. I've done a good bit of shore fishing, I think it's time for a boat. My 8 year old son ( who will be my copilot) loves fishing and crabbing.

No, this was a couple weeks ago, and we had incoming tide that day. This Wednesday I was actually fishing, And yes very windy, but the water wasn't to muddy at all.

Had the same problem on the Severn a month ago - tons of huge females and smalls. Went up river to get away from the females (less salty) and it worked, but unfortunately couldn't find the males. 7 hours = only 3 doz with 1200' line and 10 traps using CN...a lot were light too. Same results with a guy using clams I spoke to. Hope it picks up soon! Got a good chuckle at your editing when the wifey says you were right! Doesn't happen often, but when it does, we sure gotta appreciate it!!!!

Males should be in there now molting. Had some light crabs this week. But all males. Only one female

I'm born and raised in Maryland that's real Maryland folk right there I appreciate that can I ask what kind of setup do you use and how long of a day would it take you normally to get a bushel or two of crabs once again enjoy the video thanks for being good people
@OutdoorsInMaryland2 жыл бұрын
That is 1200ft. trotline. Baited every 6ft on snoods with chicken necks. It really all depends, we've caught a bushel in 2 1/2 hours and we spent 4 or 5 hours to get 3 dozen. If the crabs are there it is much easier. Here is a video on my set ups kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYjPnoxuq8aVqbM

Nice haul, how deep were you finding them? I went last weekend, same pattern in southern Maryland, lots of big females and small males, had to work hard for a couple dozen nice crabs. Water quality and crab numbers were awesome though
@OutdoorsInMaryland3 жыл бұрын
About 5 to 9. This was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. We went the next week 5 total crabs. Ran a ledge. The good things is the females should be leaving and the males should be heading In The to molt. So should be a good fall run. Last Tuesday went out and caught some jumbo. Unfortunately I didn't record it. We will back at it next week and will be videoing. Hey thanks for watching really appreciate it!!!!🤘
