Excellent video. I've been crabbing recreationally for about 10 years, mostly in the Wicomico River in Southern Maryland (off the Potomac). I've always been a trotline chicken necker, but recently have been thinking about getting some traps to bring along also. Great tips about wind, especially for little guys like us on jon boats. I love watching these videos to see how others are doing things. Thanks for taking the time to put the content together.

Last year I bought 20 traps I have yet to use them. I’ve always used a trotline since I was a kid. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to get out there and drop a few traps and give it a try.

Your allowed to take both. We just did a video yesterday using the trotline for the first time this year.

Hello I have Hey, 600 foot trotline. It's a little easier to manage for somebody that's inexperienced, in my opinion. And you can always add another 600 foot

If you are not using snood a cow hitch knot will allow you to pop off all the baits at the end but just yanking one end and tying off to a cleat. Makes cleanup much easier

Thanks for the info. I grew up in Maryland and in the Summer we spent just about every weekend on the Chesapeake in Deale MD. We used the square traps and we fished , swam , and also did a little waterskiing as a family of 5. One thing I'd point oout . It sounds like you are saying TROUT line . It's called a TROT line , no U . Steamed in beer and Old Bay is the only way 😎

As I was telling on the live couple weeks back. Maryland legal ring net size is 30" I made my own. They are 3 ring top ring is heavier and more stout. Middle ring keeps net open and bottom gives plenty Room at to peg with 4 necks. When you pull up the crab locks in the bottom and can't swim out because of the depth of the net. But they stack flat. Takes up no space. I used to do it in a coleman canoe on the Chester and wye rivers.

I never used them before. That's awesome

Is crabbing on a FULL MOON better. I’m going crabbing this Friday on the full moon 🌕 Also are there any places to crab at night in Sandy Point.
@OutdoorsInMaryland2 ай бұрын
@@GypsyDee they usually shed on a new moon, but they are done shedding for the year. Any crabs you catch should be good and full of meat. Good luck and might want to go deep. If you crabbing in Maryland.

@@OutdoorsInMarylandthanks for responding. 🙏🏾 but what about the full moon.
@OutdoorsInMaryland2 ай бұрын
@@GypsyDee crabbing can be real good no matter the moon phase. Keep an eye on the tide. Full moon can give a extra high tide. As long as the current is moving you have a great chance. Full moon usually mean they should be more full and packed with meat. New moon, you will get a lot of white shells, because they haven't filled back in.
