Let's not forget the media gaslit the fan base when we started to see signs that this guy was not it. I'm old enough to remember Ricardo Pepi saving that mans job and qualifying this team for Qatar when we were floundering in qualifications. playing Ferreira against Aké, VVD and Timber in WC and thinking it was gonna work was the last straw for me! Great stuff as usual fellas.

Turning Point: Copa America "grouped" failure for USMNT vs. Team Canada getting to Copa America semi's with a manager (Jesse Marsch) who was considered inferior and not a serious choice to replace Gregg after WC 2022. Several of us American soccer newbies found that unacceptable.

I turned on Berhalter during Qualifiers when he kept making roster, subs, and tactical mistakes. Playing for draws all the time was pissing me off. I snapped when Berhalter yanked Pepi out of the game around the 60 minutes for scoring a second goal vs Jamaica. And yes Gregg was pissed about it because he didn't play within the system(Gregg's words). Pepi didn't start the next match vs Panama and we lost 0-1. Pepi eventually was left off the WC roster. We barely qualified with a Goal difference. I didn't see any improvement outside of better camp rosters since then. Gregg was over his head and it's been obvious the whole time.

True. I'd forgotten about that. Not only was Berhalter a mediocre manager, but it also seemed like he was very stubborn and selfish, and didn't like when players got credit for winning games. I think there was a moment in the 22 world cup, in the final minute of the England game, where the USA were doing a free kick, that Berhalter told the player to kick it out of bounds on purpose. I think Berhalter was afraid that England would get the ball and counter on us and maybe score. At that point I lost all respect for Berhalter. He was such a coward.

He was ruining US Soccer by never having the team play up to their potential. Players doing great at their clubs come in look clueless and that was because of Gregg's system he forced these guys to play. He controls everything on and off the pitch. The players never had the freedom to go get a goal. He stated multiple times the System is more important than scoring goals. That outrage was for a reason and not just because some Twitter fans just wanted to hate something. Those fans want to be happy and hyped to watch this team play. It was obvious Gregg wasn't going to get it done. Hence him being fired.

So much time was wasted during Berhalter's time as manager. The first few years he wasted time by continuing to call in his MLS favorites. It wasn't until after the world cup when he finally stopped calling in players like Roldan and Ferreira. And these last couple years he has struggled to even get wins against poor central American countries.

brooklyn? do you play at pier 5 on the soccer/football fields? i tried it once during league games but was a poor goalkeeper. i usually play beach on pier 6 though...

It's silly to talk about winning % and PPG without the huge asterisk about nations league replacing more than half of our friendlies. A potted plant could achieve that winning % vs. the likes of Grenada and Cuba which have replaced friendlies vs. Italy or the Netherlands. Not to mention that Mexico has its worst team since the 1970's or early 80's,. There were good moments under Berhalter, but pretending we can objectively say he is better than prior managers based on winning % is frankly clueless.

5:46... Where to start? The Randy Quaid character in ID4 analogy only appears to be correct because that is the way the powers that be in USSF would want it. Wynalda was the greatest threat to the status quo USSF has ever seen. Eric Wynalda's picture should be placed in the dictionary beside the definition of a "team-player." Ironically, he has tried to crash his aircraft into the mothership twice already and was twice thwarted. Once before the '98 World Cup when he pleaded to keep the "Captain for Life" in the squad even after Harkes slept with Wynalda's wife. And again in 2017, after the greatest failure in the history of sport, he tried to save us by running for President of USSF with intentions of implementing Article 9 of the FIFA statutes in this country. Thereby completely changing the entire landscape of how soccer would be run in this country, from YMCA to the top flight. As long as we're riffing off of 90's blockbusters, in the words of paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant, "try to show a little respect."
