I’ve worked with him in Germany where he used to train young showjumpers. What you see on this video was daily practice for him until he was eventually fired. Shame to see him do these things again..

As a person who rides horse YES YES YES this is cruelty. I don’t whip horse I just kinda tap them. Whipping a horse doesn’t make the horse go, it makes the horse scared of you. When the horse knocked the jump, he was scared. Not all riders are like this though. But he DEFINITELY needs to be charged with animal cruelty!

The poor horse was so wound up after that beating, he even tried to jump the next fence on a totally bad stride, which was rider error. Hate to think of the hiding he got after that! Should be banned and his yard investigated! Bad horsemanship! That horse will be lucky if he jumps that height again. Hope the owners move him from the yard! 😡

Agree I had a rescue horse that I didnt know the back story on but I think he was beaten because he was scared of sticks. before I knew that i tried to use a lunge wip to hit the ground to get him to move he ended up kicking my side I never let him see a wip again and he was fine. he actually lived to 31 and I was jumping him until he was 24 then just rode him on trails for 3 years until he was ready to be a pasture pet for his last few years. moral of his story you dont need wipes and you dont need fam to ride and have your horse be healthy and happy

That rider got just what he deserved. People will no longer remember his skill but his cruelty. Too bad he didn't fall off. When a horse refuses a jump, it's not because s/he wants to piss off the rider. It's because there is fear. Why not get to the root of the issue. We don't revert to a paddle the first time we encounter resistance from our young children. We strive to find out what the problem is.

You’d have to stop all horse racing to achieve that. PETA maintains stats on horse deaths for each race track. Names, dates… Then you are told that statistics for those that die during training are not to fastidiously recorded. But the totals will shock you I’m confident.

This is why it should not be a competitive sport or a business. A horse can’t say “I don’t want to do this” whether it is competitive jumping, races, dressage, etc. It has become an unethical business all over the place from surrogate mares to sperm transfers. A human can agree to these things based on their own feelings a horse can never agree to this which is why the practice of it should be illegal!

I think you need to read the story and educate yourself on horses ... I have a few that love to jump and Will pull me into the jump however this man and his bad riding caused the mistake he lined the horse up wrong and the horse couldn't see the jump and the vile rider took out his anger on the poor animal he is in line to be banned from competition horses are more than capable of saying i don't want to do this ..... just like any other living being !!!! Wether or not the rider is willing to listen is another story ... you get your bad eggs in everything and I hope hes severely punished

This type of “sport” should not even exist. If horse sport like show jumping did not exist in the first place, nothing like this would ever happen or would have ever happened. A lot that we don’t see is happening behind closed doors, and if you ask me, just because a horse may not show obvious pain or stress signals, does not mean, that the horse is fine or that any of this is okay.

The annoying thing is, whips are used to “encourage” the horses. They don’t, they hurt them and sometimes kill them. Helpful thing, people lodged complaints with both the FEI and the US Equestrian Federation (USEF). In response, the USEF suspended Lemke for four months and fined him $4,000. As Lemke was no longer registered with the FEI, that body could not take action.

The subject has been beaten almost as much as the horse. After many years riding Hunters and Jumpers, I can share with you that the Arena is not the place to discipline a horse. The trainers (training the riders) will always say "the horse is always right". If they are refusing it's due to a lack of proper training and fear of the rider. I have been guilty of this as a neophyte. If the horse is performing quietly and with confidence then that is a sign of proper training. Outside the arena ... the only time to discipline as horse is if they are threatening someone (biting or kicking).

I am absolutely disgusted by this person. I bought a horse about 2-3 months ago, at home he is mostly perfect. but when I brought him to a show he was really scared and tried to run away from the ring/get me off. (It was a 2’ hunter class nothing hard he could easily jump higher). The reason he did that is probably people like this it’s really sad and not ok.
