Apple won't let you ask them to track your phone because they can't confirm it's you. It could be someone calling to locate you. That's what the privacy protection is for.

@@jackc5250 I worked for apple tech support and they can get as much information that you have already given apple(i.e. name, icloud, address, etc.) We weren't able to locate the phone and tell you were it is regardless if we know it's you or not, like it's not even in the software for us to attempt it, we can walk you through how to use findmy on another device.

My phone was stolen just rarlier in the year . Just after i upgraded . He came in and took it out my bag behing me and cover it with a book on his table . I put out a ransom . He kept away . I just did what you did and gave everything to the police . They arrested him in school . Just before that he told me i was weak . He got arrested and i told him to have a great day .

I did this a couple days ago with someone who scammed me. I made a fake account pretended to not know what he was up to. Them he gave me his Facebook and I got all his information sent it to the bank and now there’s a case open for him! And I got my money back 😄

In all honesty, you didn't do anything out of the ordinary here. You didn't use any extraordinary manipulation, you just did the weakest threat possible, hoping the dude was dumb enough to not realize you actually couldn't get any info by the vague IP. I'm in Florida, but my phone will route to Georgia at times. So its not some super clever techniques used here...ask me how I tracked down the movers who stole everything I owned, disappeared off the face of the earth, with no contact, but after 2 months was able to not only track them down, but find out that everything was being held in a shipping container in NC. Then get THEM to pick it up, and bring it all to me...

If you wanted to find out who the house attached to the IP address was linked to you could have searched county tax records online and it will have SO much information for you! Just saying. Also that doesn’t guarantee it’s the person who you’re talking to as it could be a rental house, airbnb, family owned home, etc. Just some food for thought!

I flip phones on eBay and it is so common for sellers to sell blacklisted phones and buyers who see a opportunity like $1000 would take it. I know, I would.. All you need is IMEI number of the phone
