That time I traveled to Seoul, South Korea for a conference and got caught in a surprise declaration of martial law. While it was quickly shut down by parliament, the following days saw protest rallies that obstructed traffic to many tourist spots. Stuck at our beautiful hotel, we spent the evenings taking photos and videos of the gorgeous view of the Han River. We could see the National Assembly (with the blue dome roof) across the river, where protesters had quickly gathered only moments after martial law was declared, and where members of parliament broke in for an emergency vote to reject the martial law declaration.
