I had never heard of IGP or IPO but I had heard of Schutzhund and knew what it was. My understanding was that it was really just for military and police dog training - had nothing to do with what a regular person like me would need for my family dog. I had no idea that modern day dog "obedience training"/"dog training" was based on this. Biggest mistake I ever made was doing what I was told/made to believe was the "right thing" and getting my new GSD puppy into puppy classes and obedience training. I never did any formal training with my previous two GSDs and they were the best, most wonderful dogs! The best thing I ever did was find and listen to Mark Dubose and Robert Hynes and chuck the methods and tools I learned in dog training in the garbage and start rebuilding my relationship with my boy! He is on the road to becoming the wonderful and well-adjusted dog that my previous two were thanks to encouragement from Robert and Mark! I will be forever grateful!

whats funny about the tools thing is that they will recommend all of the tools you mentioned but will demonize anyone who just uses a front or back fitting harness.

That’s just a strange occupational issue. A pet owner only deals with one dog typically. Try doing that with say 6 dogs a day and your arm will be jello. Another reason is that there are thousands of videos of harness dogs having altercations. That is giving a false indication because the population of harnessed dogs is so much larger right now that you can’t compare.

It's not often that Monty is on a leash but I use a 15 foot retractable. Another no no for most trainers.

Why would your arm be jello? There is a reason a dog is pulling. Figure it out and you won't need a tool. That's the very problem - they never address the cause of the behaviours. They don't care about the cause. There is no money in it.

@@roberthynesdogtraining My arm is jello because I work with dogs not keyboards. I have watched a small rottweiller pull you around a dog park and almost pull you over. Do that 5 times a day with dogs you just met. Some times you can let a dog roam in a park and sometimes you cant. I am not going to let a dog that has killed before walk around a dog park on a leash much less off leash without working with them first for awhile.

@@grt49er I've worked with dogs that have bit and killed before too. I've been bitten many times, doesn't bother me. Don't be thinking you're special. There is a REASON why it happened. WHY is the Rottweiler pulling me around? What is the cause? I"m still not going to use tools. And guess what? The owner is the one that's going to "fix" it. And by the way - Ace is doing wonderful. Funny how trainers never ask about the outcome - but they fight.
