First before changing sensors, look at rust around sensors, I’ve had numerous issues where rust literally pushed abs sensor away from seated position just enough to throw the code! Drove me nuts till I realized what was going on! And now it’s first thing I look for when I see this code. 8 outve 10 times this was the cause on Toyota

I’ve had my Rav4 for about two years and had these crazy problems consist overtime and it still drives, there’s a Speed Sensor Check Engine Light that appears after a rainstorm and when it does the speedometer shoots to 80km while stationary, the only way to drive my vehicle is to turn on high beam or my vehicle will shake and stall completely then the speedometer drops to 0 and doesn’t move at all when driving, on top of this morning i started my vehicle and no power came on so i unplugged the terminal and put back onto the battery then it worked but here’s the weird part the rpm goes from 1000 to 0 within a good 30 seconds and stalls when no gas is pushed down and the car shakes like crazy while the whole speedometer thing is happening, fast forward into the next day after a thunderstorm last night i decided to start my vehicle and expected the worst, but my car works fine the rpm read 1500 on start and slowly went to 1000 and stuck to it and speedomoter works without turning high beam on..what should i do as the check engline light for this code is still there???

That’s most likely a bad resister in your speedometer board

Or wheel sensor unless your Toyota gets speed from trans input sensor. Usually trans input sensor you’ll also get eradic shifting or delays

I have a 99 Rav4 4cyl 2.0L that has that code P0500. The speedometer and the odometer appear to be no longer working in the gauge cluster, however the drivability seems to be normal along with shifting. Would that sensor be the likely cause for this issue and require replacement or maybe just a fuse?

Older Camry 2009 solara Gets speed from wheel sensors sends to abs them to the speedometer which decodes and sends to ecu If your speedometer works it usually wiring bad ecu or which is common, bad dash cluster. Also check your alternator which of its not putting out quite enough voltage you will get a 0500 code. It’s usually not trans speed sensor or exam. ABS usually causes jerky or no speedometer gauge. Of everything checks ok and your cruise doesn’t work and your alternator is atleast 13.5 to 14.7 then it’s speedometer board wiring or ecm My car runs perfect and I have this code and I cannot get it to go away. With 200k + miles and everything running perfect a llaying card covers the engine light. There is also a resistor in the speedometer board you can replace for about 5 bucks mainly shipping, seems to be the thing that goes bad on Camrys. Hope this helps

i bought a bluetooth plug in, that transmits to my tablet, with the OBD LINK app!!! its as good as a 1200 dollar scanner..... 😉😁

From your experience with Toyota Is it possible for the p0500 to be a faulty abs speed sensor without the abs light on, just the cel along with tracoff and vsc? I changed my speed sensor to the trans but lights and issue still there

Your abs light will almost always be on from what I have seen. See my top post of everything works shifts ok and speedometer works and and light off it coild be your speedometer circuit board wiring from that to your ecm pr not very likely your ecm. Your cruise control probably won’t work. I think those are like Camrys

Yes find out the route of vehicular speed for your car. Does it come from trans sensor or abs. Of it can’t keep a steady reading on your speed it can’t shift correctly

I have a question what happens if you dnt have any code but the speed is not reading correct I’m driving slow and the speedometer shows I’m going faster than I am is that the same should I change it

It could be a bad sensor, but it can also be in the wiring or the gauge cluster.

So I jacked up my '17 Camry and put it stands to rotate tires, repeat process on other side, then the next day I get into the car to drive it and that's when I get the issues. The speedometer wasn't working, check electric power steering system, check ABS, check vehicle stability system, check brake system. But then I turn the car off and back on again then they all go away, just the check engine light stays on for a few days. This has happened to me the last 3 times I rotated my tires. What could be causing this?

It sounds like an intermittent issue, which often is a bad wire connection or a sensor starting to fail.

I have this code showing on my toyota yaris 2008 and have the sensor and Ecu replaced and it's still the same with gear 3 to 8 sluggish shifting and it's still showing p0500 . Any other things to check for possible solutions

Mucar driverscan 50 bucks a year for the app unless you spend 400 ish . Best 50 bucks I spent. Heard thinkcar v2 younger transmission readings but it’s 99 to 150 and 100 a year subscription for the app

Topdon Bluetooth for 199 is good but it’s pricey. Watch out because a lot of the lower ones do a lot but you have to buy plugins or data for a specific vehicle. And some are 35 bucks a plug-in

Please I have a 08 Camry v6 with the u660e transmission It has a po500 code on the dtc But everything works fine the transmission shifts well The abs works well no warning lights Should I be worried??

Your cruise control probably doesn’t work of it does its wiring or ecm My car, did you actually get a individual speed reading on each wheel start there your probably ok with the light not being on but easier to check those readings before you replace your speedometer at try and hunt down wiring Also check your relay fuses

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) needs to be tested to see if it has failed. If it is good, then there is likely an issue in the wiring.

My speedometer doesn't work randomly. When it doesn't work the car doesn't shift right. When it does come on the car shifts perfectly. I already changed the transmission speed sensor. Got a hunch you what it might be?

That is a common symptom of a bad speed sensor. If there is a speed sensor code and the sensor is good, I would check the wiring.

My 2005 Sienna gave me a sustained P0500 code along with an ABS light. I then replaced the battery (for another reason) and the code went away but the ABS light is still on. Does anyone know what this could be?

ok, i have a Sienna(2004). the owner was at 65 mph and the tranny "disconected", literally shifted into neutral and never went into gear again. got it home, read a p0500 code and he swapped out both transmission speed sensors. still popping p0500. still in neutral. shifter is perfect, no bad plastic grommets 😆😆 so not being here, whats your impression of this problem....?? also, what kind of scanner do you have, i grew up in the era of using a 32 inch phillips head screwdriver and putting it to your ear..... 🤣🤣🤣as an advanced diagnostic tool..... 😂😂😂😂

It is hard to say, but I would check the wiring and the reluctor ring teeth.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 put it up on jackstands, climbed under and discovered the half shaft clamp was dangling, the shaft had slipped 4 inches out so, there wasnt any teeth to read!!!! 15 bucks later he was back on the road! 😁
