Great name for it! At last another fan! Haven’t heard the name Arthur Dent in years! Richard Adams was a brilliant author. I have the Hitch Hiker’s guide in book form as well as the movie. I wonder if Space-X has a spare rocket, to go check this thing out? It could be made of Gold, or silver or platinum or peanut butter. Probably not peanut butter. We could put a camera on it, like a super expensive Go Pro to see where it goes! Might see if we can deflect it at close range! Might paint a sign on it saying, "Greetings from planet Earth." or, "Kilroy was here".

Remember how in Space 1999, it took a nuclear waste dump exploding to propel the Moon onto an epic voyage. It would be more likely for a passing asteroid, planet or star brown dwarf or otherwise to toss the Moon out of it's orbit or even the Earth. We tend to think of the orbits being permanent but really orbits beyond three bodies can not be proven mathematically to be indefinitely stable.

@judywells8345 I'm in PDW56's age range and I remember at least two other temporary moons in the last 10 years or so. One was called 2020 CD3 and I forget what the other one was called. As I said above this kind of stuff goes on all the time. It's very unlikely to be a problem. As for a magnetic pole shift on earth, maybe, maybe not. The behaviour of the magnetic poles is under close scrutiny because they are important. I keep an eye on various science sources and they don't seem to be worried about it so neither am I. I know there are some sources that have been hyping it up but they don't seem to be reliable. One thing that is happening is that the sun's magnetic poles are about to flip. This happens every 11 years and we are getting some beautiful aurora's out of it. There was one the other night but the full moon washed out the faint light so it was hard to see. They are happening every six or eight weeks at the moment but will tail off in a year or so. If you can get to somewhere with a dark sky go and see if you can see it. Nature in action

How will this affect tidal and seismic forces, if at all?
@seed.meditation
@seed.meditation 2 ай бұрын
It can yes. The gravitational facts are there to make an effect on Earth. As you know when the full moon appears then tidal effect happens. Even right now as the Saturn is closest to Earth, some kind of tectonic things are happening.

I'm pretty sure the poles have already shifted 😆 We got 103.8° "cold" tap water 💦 in Arizona, burning people, and South Africa is buried in snow ❄️☃️ 😫 Edit: That's 103.8° F🌡️

Sorry for asking. But are you sure it's a moon-shaped rock or a meteorite disguised as a moon? Because remember that sometimes things are not what they appear to be.

Since it will be in earth's orbit for about 53 days. You should pick it up and bring it down to earth. It's only 32.9 feet, so it should fit in a rocket 🚀 like the space shuttle. Then you can really study it. Peace through Ahev
@Tstopmotion

@@gregoryrollins59 Sadly NASA no longer has a spaceshuttle program. Even if NASA still had spaceshuttles, I think it would be too large to bring back to Earth. It might be safest not to touch if at all. If we knocked it into the Earth it might do damage.

@Tstopmotion I know about the shuttle. It was just an example of a rocket. Maybe I should have said big f'ing rocket from space X. Plus, 32.9 feet is not that big. Even if it was to hit Earth, it would burn uo in the atmosphere. Of course, then there would be nothing left to study. So why let it just pass us by when we can capture it and bring it home. Space mining for it elements. Might just fine something that's either rear or not on earth, although. Which could be quite useful. At least, that's what a type 1 civilization would do. Besides, it would make a great movie.

Things is, this is not the first time such a thing has happened, it seems about every ten years or so, a smallish object like this passes close by so, if they start to prepare now, they might be able to tag the next one, placing instruments on it and a transmitter, to cheaply, (More or less), tour deep space and sent the pictures back to us. It most likely wouldn't see much but it would give some ideas about the actual dynamics of such objects and serve as a landmark beacon in space for future explorers.
