From the Film Australia Collection. Made by the National Film Board 1951. Produced to celebrate the Jubilee of Federation, Cavalcade of Australia provides an historical review of the development of the nation between 1901 and 1951. The film opens with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George V and Queen Mary) to Australia in 1901 to open the first Commonwealth Parliament. Through the use of historical footage, the film not only covers notable events in the Commonwealth story but also social development, fashions and economic growth over the period.

How? Childhood mortality? Yeah, fun. Eradicated diseases such as polio that are now making a comeback due to anti vax morons?

Just imagine if we had to get volunteers to go to war today - do you think even one person would show up ? Doomed.

hopefully it wont happen in your lifetime and mine . hopefully it will never happen again , If our country was under direct threat heaps of eligible people would show up war and peace is i fine line as fine as life and death . it could happen before you knew it , so enjoy every day while you can

Mark, you do know that Australia has an army, navy and air force? All volunteer? And I bet you have never been in any of them.

Wonderful video of the first 50 years. Well I came here in 1972 from England and so that is 50 years. I knew much about Australia as my dad came to Australia in 1937 aged 15 and he lied about his age and served in the 2nd 33rd battalion so went to the middle East and PNG. He went back to the UK after WW2. Since 1972 we have given up so much and less self sufficient, globalisation is the new way. I think we need to be wary of being held to ransom by countries who can cut off supply. We only need to look at sanctions against Russia and the Russian response at turning off vital gas supplies to western Europe. Sadly it is hard to buy anything now without hinese origins. We can and should learn from history

@@NFSAFilms These are great films , I was bought up in the 60's & 70'S as a youngster and what a reminder its been to look at the environment, the streets, signs used for advertising, the old cars with their chrome bumpers even the city skyline was so different. Thanks for the amazing memories. Steven Said.

Did he say a 3 engine fekkin monoplane - sounded humerus, i reckon it was Focker! Great video thanks, pity we have lost our manufacturing and i hope they don't get rid of coal fired power stations as we need a Base-Load to help with renewables!

The same conservative parties who destroyed our manufacturing sector to cripple the unions are trying to undermine the shift to renewable energy sources which are cheaper, cleaner and more viable in the long term. It's all about corruption.
