This was one of my absolute favorite Cavalier shows. Too bad it didn't really get the publicity and credit that it deserved. This show was WELL put together and I was AT finals night, and many of us thought that the Cavaliers WON that year. Watching this was like watching a movie at the movie theater. It had plenty of suspense and action. The Cavaliers DID take us deep into ancient Japan where we could experience the ancient culture of back then!!! It was a history lesson with Asian aethetics. Phantom Regiment Spatans show was great and unforgetable too (with classic Drum Corps) and Phantom was simply super clean, but this Samari show literally had a impact. But, I guess Phantom hadn't won a DCI championship by themselves at the time, so I think that the judges gave it to Phantom. Well, that's still good for Phantom and the kids in that Corps. So, it's all good!. Phantom was still great!

Factual information. I'm no Percussion guru, but I come a family of musicians. One year we watched the movie Drumline and I was beyond impressed. Then my uncle, my dad and his buddies pretty much said, "You thought that was good? Watch this." And they pulled up this clip. Now I've watched a lot of drum breaks in between 2008 and now (2020), none felt as legendary as this PRACTICE...

the center tenor is also the section leader, for the same reason as the snare, so everyone can listen in to him (or her, him in the cavaliers case). And in case you were wondering, the bass drum 2, the second smallest, is always the bass section leader, and cymbals are kind of random i think.

I really like the roll into the singles near 1:38 I've listened to it maybe 25 times today and can't find the transition if I don't watch. The camera not being able to follow the sticks during the singles adds a pretty cool effect.

High school tenor player here. We watered down the split measure into a tenor solo in Sing Sing Sing, and it's pretty insane. I would've liked to just do this, but it's too freaking hard, even for our tenor line, which is actually pretty good.

You're actually correct albeit unintentially. The drumline is not taking their tempo from the drum major. The drum major is taking his tempo from the drumline so he can in turn give direction to the rest of the corps.
