A cavalier that was from a family of loggers, would have the nickname “Sailor.” Reason- “Chivalry Timbers!”

@@page121tabletoproleplaying4 I also have a natural 1 times four story, but it’s from 40K. I was engaging a tactical marine with an assassin. The marine had only one melee die wile my assassin had 4. You guessed it, I rolled quadruple 1s. The problem was in that addition of the rules, if you rolled a 1 in melee combat, your opponent got to add +1 to their roll. That is +1 for every die that you rolled a 1 on. Somehow my assassin, hence forth named fumbles, survived.

Don Lockwood was Gene Kelly's character in Singing in the Rain. Don was an actor & he played a cavalier in his first "talkie."

Unearthed Arcana was basically the D&D cartoon converted into the RPG.

We tried out the new UA classes, but ended up abandoning them fairly early on. In the end, UA ended up just being more spells and stuff for us and not much else.

That's on the DM for allowing it instead of just saying "your fighter can buy a horse if you want to be a cavalier" 😆

First saw this class in Dragon Magazine. I was a paladin at the time, so I was naturally interested in this class.

The Dragon version was better than the UA version.

Pursuing honour and glory would not be selfish, IF you are serving a noble Liege, King, or the Realm. Yeah, you get stuck in, but it isn't for you at all, you are a servant for something higher. A fighter/cleric serving a theocracy (and not the King), that loved mounted combat and getting stuck in played it like that sort of cavalier, and yet his rp was also of a humble religious man when battle was not joined. The cavalier might be best run considering the heroics of the Knights of the Round Table (no, not when they were killing one another, when they were being heroic).

Wait, that paragraph on bravery does make sense. Human cavaliers get their melee weapon proficiencies, and can take javelins (and thereafter whatever they like, such as two-handed swords), but the elven and half-elven cavaliers can use bows early on because bow cav fits more with elven chivalry, but not human chivalry. That would be a fair reading?

I guess the restiction on Elves makes sense in that you dont really picture and Wood Elf or Wild Elf as a Cavalier in full plate on a barded horse. They feel like they'd more be Horse Archers

@@larryreddecliff2284 It was somewhere in my collage years (8/79-5/85). I want to say the 79-80 year, numbers I don't know. They were basically a cross between a Ranger and Assassin; they worked through the Assassin's Guild and were profucient with capture weapons.

With all the so called controversies of the Cavalier over the years this was the class that caused me to be more optimistic in trying to understand rules as they were written in spite of any contradictions Why eliminate part of the game just because so many people don’t agree with the exact wording Think it through is what I say for Cavaliers and Paladins are Aces

Well, yeah, the book is riddled with errors and contradictions, and my copy is noticeably less well-bound than the previous books. I was very excited to buy it, it was a significant expense at the time, but the pages separated, with the cover becoming almost completely torn off in under a year of not very heavy use as I didn't employ much of the material. Same for Oriental Adventures.

A broken class in a broken book. Honestly the classes in the book were well....bad. The expanded racial tables....bad. The spells....usable. I played a cavalier before this came out using the Dragon version, which is even MORE broken than the UA version. Great vid as usual
