I've been begging Affinity to make an AE competitor but they have no interest in doing so. Even though AE is used by so many industries, it's pale in comparison to the Photoshop/Illustrator crowd. In fact, I heard the AE team is actually quite small compared to the other teams. Resolve is killing the game against Premiere. I know many like FCPX, but I just can't stand behind Apple when it comes to software they aren't really focused on haha.

@@CreativeDojo Agree about apple! I just mentioned FCPX as premiere rival in video editing app, I am not a user of it and have no idea about the pros and cons. I think Affinity just want focus to focus on design field and not into motion/video. Imho, Adobe is just to much bloat with the old code. Every update make it slower and slower. But for now, Adobe software will remains the industry standard because they are one of the first player, but we don't know whats coming. I believe someday they will be replaced by others.

I hope After Effects gets some good competition for 2D motion graphics. I use it on daily basis, but it sure is starting to show it's age. We also need node based adjustment layers. I am sick and tired of pre-comping and duplicating layers.

Most definitely, the core way AE works needs to be re-done, but the AE team is relatively small compared to the other platform apps. Not to mention AE is becoming a huge container of just plugins.

There's also a free software like Blender with its code openly available called Enve2D. I think we should support that project instead of cavalry. We would like a free and open source software to take over proprietary one so that software do not create a limit to creativity.

What I like about Cavalry is speed. Very well optimized piece of software comparing to AE.

Good thing that competition is finally getting started! But all that procedural stuff I can make in C4D, for example. So Cavalry isn't really AE competitor for now, but very good start point anyway.

Yeah all the procedural stuff you can def make in C4D, but C4D is expensive and is focused on 3D (of course you can still create 2D stuff!). But I agree, very good starting point haha

I hope this app eventually becomes a rival for After Effects, but currently it is not. It can only do a tiny fraction of what After Effects can do, particularly in 3D and compositing. It's like touting a Photoshop alternative but you can't use layers. Cavalry is an alternative to After Effects for the subset of motion designers who do vector 2D animation. I do that, but in my day job I'm also called upon to key greenscreens, edit footage, composite elements, make things fly around in 3D and more, none of which this app can do.

Looks interesting. I'm not deeply familiar with AE but I haven't heard that it has shaders. That could really take an edge over AE if you are familiar with shader programming.

Welp. Dream dead in the water. 1.0 is out and priced basically identical to After Effects. Why would you pay for a competitor when you can use the INDUSTRY STANDARD with more features and support for the same (infuriating) monthly payment.

Subscription model definitely sucks, but it's the trend for software it seems. I agree AE is industry standard, but Cavalry is niche. Give it time, and it'll surpass AE in terms of procedural and dynamic animation tool.

they cost more than adobe cc (student version ) :/ cavalry 1300 - 1900 Rs (INR) per month (without tax) Adobe cc - 1400 pm via their student n teachers package and you get all the apps I wanna switch but I do love affinity but video wise and after effect wise I havent found a good alternative. the day I do - its bye bye adobe!
