This switch was originated by the late Dean Dill for his effect “Blizzard,” and yes, it flies right by them.

I was always pretty terrified to try any of the more advanced switches I've seen out there. I have a little bit of a tremor, so anything with that level of precision was always going to be out of reach. This one is nice, simple, and easy to execute. Did my first live deck switch this afternoon into a multicolored deck full of jokers, and got that shocked looks that's the reason so many start magic. What's more, I got that look out of my wife, who knows alllll my bullshit, so even more satisfying. Loving your channel bro.

Thank you Cavan. So convincing to let the spectator shuffle the deck and then do the switch on the off beat. The only trouble I had was a few cards hanging up in the shell when the rest remained on the table. They would fall out later but it made things look sloppy. I was able to solve the problem by sticking a few pin holes through the shell so there is no vacuum effect. Hope this makes sense.

I think the best deck switch is literally just using pockets. Put new deck in left pocket and take the deck in right hand. During a trick, any card trick where they have to turn over a card for a reveal place both hands in the pocket and grab the new deck with your left hand and leave old deck with your right. You need a semi strong trick to do it but Ive NEVER been caught. Not cuz im good, the technique just works. Sounds like it wont but start with an omni deck and work up to a loose deck.

I think blizzard is better because the misdirection is built into the routine and the shell is slightly expanded. That being said ending clean is nice... Guess it's situational. Always good to have more tools in the tools box.

I don't understand how to start this trick. Why is there an "empty" card box on the table to begin with? Usually, the magician takes the cards out of the box at the beginning of the trick. In this trick, you need the cards all ready out of the box and on the table. So this seems like it's not something you can just walk up and do.

I like it but can it be done with tricks where the spectator sees you pull the first deck out of its box? Seems like this would only work for tricks where you were already set up on the table with your first deck not in a box unless you add some moves swap the empty card box for the gimmick.

Maybe I missed this, but how do you present at the beginning? If you're trying to give the impression there's only one deck, then you would take the deck out of the box, and put the box on the table. You wouldn't take out a box and then take out a loose deck, that doesn't make sense.

I often walk up to a table with the deck removed. It is very natural if you are roving from table to table. Why would you keep putting it back? Don't overthink. I approach the table, smile, talk, put the deck down on top of the box, tell a little joke, pick up the deck, and away you go.

I know this vid is 3 years old, but i just want to say that the erdnase change you did is pretty rough, because we can see you slide a card forward... if you cover the whole card like palming position then nobody will see you slide the card forward. I see sooo many magicians doing it like you did, but people can clearly see how it works... try it with covering the entire card and hiding that secret move. 🍻
