Cave Diving in Piccaninnie Ponds

Piccaninnie Ponds is a stunning sinkhole rated dive site located in Mount Gambier, South Australia.
This video is a journey through the site whilst scuba diving. In order to scuba dive in Piccaninnie Ponds one has to gain certification through the Cave Diving Association of Australia (CDAA) due to the overhead environments in the cave section called the Cathedral and the deep nature of the Chasm. However the site can also be snorkelled and permits are available locally for this. It's one of the most well known and popular dive sites in the area for CDAA members and most members will try and do at least one dive there during a visit owing to it's exceptionally clear water and interesting topography.

I will be taking a course in scuba diving in Lombok/Bali, and get a open water certification next year. I knew there is a freshwater place near us that we can dive, so I google it, and saw your amazing vid. Hope to dive in Piccaninnie one day.

It's a great sport to get into and i fully recommend it. It all starts with Open Water. However in order to dive sites like Pics you'll need to progress through to cavern and sinkhole rated training recognised by the CDAA (Cave Diving Association of Australia) as this site and many others on my channel require permits. However I'm sure you will really enjoy the journey and wish you the best in your dive training and adventures.

HK Lam You would have to check the individual site as to what the requirements are with training. Sites like Piccaninnie Ponds require specific training because of the depth and more importantly overhead environments. However some sites in my area like Ewens Ponds can be dived on an Open Water Certification. Actually I have a video on Ewens too worth checking out. It's a beautiful clear freshwater site but with no real cave areas. It's also a great dive.
