Hey you guys! So many things to say about this cool video! I love it when you guys make videos about your own dives....always entertaining! First of all...Woody....I'm jealous of your virgin cave line experience! So amazing! Gus, I'm so glad you are OK. That situation could have gone so badly quickly. Being honest about what happened and telling everyone so we can all learn from your mistake is a very valuable. The camera work in the habitat was great, and I love the Dive Talk sticker! So I guess Edd is a patron saint of deco now? I would love to do a Blue World about this expedition, but I'll be the shallow water guy.

Would have been very easy to not mention Gus's issue, but really glad you did. As someone starting down the technical diving path, learning from the experience of others is invaluable. Thank you both for your contribution to the diving community and for always being real, direct, and honest about ALL the situations you react to, especially your own.

Gus is definitely the guy i would want by my side in a difficult dive. He never loses his cool, even when in trouble. Each time, he was so cool, the others didn't even noticed he had an issue until he talked about it. That's the kind of guy you want with you in tough situations.

This was one of the best videos yet! Love the debrief. Love the dive. Love woody's antics. Gus' experience made me nervous. I have had small issues but nothing like that. 3 weeks ago I was exiting the cave and something felt weird. Like a hose twisted which happens from time to time. No big deal. I'm wast deep in water and I take my helmet off and the hose was on the top of my head under the helmet. Made me laugh. I have a go-pro on my helmet and I bumped it on the roof. I checked the go-pro to see if it was still running and it was. The hose went on top of my head and I put the helmet on it. How in the heck I didn't feel it is beyond me.

I really liked how you included your meeting footage at the beginning of the day (also great dog!!). Listening to your experiences really puts the interviews you made with Mike and Edd into perspective for me (I'm not a diver). Can't believe how skilled they are. I'd love to see more interviews with them about their experiences. But anyway these videos you made are one of my favourites on the channel, it's great to see how passionate you are about diving:) I wish you many many more great trips, hopefully without scary issues!! Gus, I'm very glad you are alright. Pls take care both of you.

Congrats on setting line in a virgin cave Woody (there's gotta be a better way to say that) and Gus thank God you are still with us and you wanted to show off your trim. Special thanks to Gus for sharing his experience. The set-up issue applies to anyone using a new rig, you showed how easily even experienced buddies can lose contact, and the description of mental impairment is salutory. With hindsight we can all say "just go up!" but the human brain doesn't work the same way when impaired with either hyperoxia or hypoxia or nitrogen narcosis; we need to be in that happy place in the middle to think straight!

Gus skillfully swimming though each layer of the swiss cheese model, only to peek though the hole in the last one, and contemplate it for a while before turning around. Maybe time for another layer or two? Can you get color coded hoses or fittings? I.e. Black hoses go to rebreather breathing tanks, blue hoses go to Y, yellow hoses go to Z etc? Obviously "Know your rig and dont be bad when putting it together" has its place. But if something sticks out to you because you're hooking an air cylinder to a black hose when it normally goes to a yellow hose, it can set off the mental flag of "hey let me look over this one more time"

25:00 Woody: "I'll stay on the loop guys, I'm good" Absolutely a great example of knowing your limits which include trust. Woody didn't know if the CO2 sensor was broken or what so back onto his own loop, smart thinking! Had to edit this for the end. Gus' acknowledgement of his own limitations and the danger he was in, and what he could have done better, is a great thing to show everyone. Best video of 2022-23 for these reasons.

That was Wesome Nd to warm it up with the legend was so endearing. Woody, I can tell is such a sweet person. I was watching an episode of cave adventures with Edd and he mentioned Woody as he talked about several amazing divers and said there was one man that doesn't get the credit he is due and that man is Woody. So if you haven't seen that episode Woody, I thought you'd love to here about it. I can tell you are very tender harder and I would bet your a giver and not a taker. Meaning you'd rather give gifts, help, knowledge, things like that. You'd probably give your last dollar to someone hungry and do without eating if you were starving. Your my favorite on dive talk. I like Gus too but he seems to be more buttoned up way too serious about everytbing!! I mean no harm I'm just saying Woody is more tender hearted. But I have love for ya both. I think your best friends and jive and dive well togdther..I'm digging your channel. I enjoy the reacting but like but I want to see more of your divdx8 ,,,,,,,,PLEASE PLEASE, PLEASE,AND MY OTHER ABSOLUTE FAVORITE 😍 ❤️ IS STORY TIME WITH "THE GOAT" EDD SORENSON!!! They didn’t care if you were certified or not which after watching your channel makes me realize just how dangerous that could of been. Lol. Congrats to Woody on his virgin exploration. Do you have a guideline that the anchors for the new line are to be placed every so many feet, if possible? I commend everyone on your ability to get into tight quarters, and all the rest you do. I've always wanted to dive but I don't think I'd ever have the internal fortitude to cave dive. I hate to admit that to myself because I'm pretty good at taking risks and I love being under water, but the potential for being trapped freaks me out. However, it's such a privilege to watch y'all dive and to see how in depth preparations go. I had no idea. I thought you just jump in and go. There's so much to it. It's like Science meets Cousteau. 🥰

At 38:05 Woody makes a comment about Gus after having run a 1.7 for a period of time. “It doesn’t linger, once you lower your PPO2 you’re done… (in the clear). Is this true? Does the risk of convulsion not linger like hypercapnia? I know when Dr. Eversole has been on the show before he says hypercapnia will still linger for minutes even after you bail out meaning you’re still in a very vulnerable position. I only ask because you guys do a great job of always fact checking and I’m curious for my own safety how these risks affect divers.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting such dramatic turn of events. Glad you’re ok. I remember reading about one of the Cousteau team divers who was actually able to go over 100m on air before unfortunately dying (it happened in 40s). I guess it just builds over time. You could easily go deeper until it would be too late. It’s so good you checked for your buddy and decided to turn back. P.s. When people are drunk they often “go on autopilot” so to speak. I guess the training was that autopilot which helped you to return.

So glad you didn't loose your teeth! 😁 & bc they didn't know exactly how deep it was glad you didn't drop that reel!! I love it when y'all do a "series," they're my favorite plus y'all always keep us laughing! Love it. Idk about removing my tank/lifeline & hanging it outside the habitat in a cave where the depths are 600 ft + What do you do if your tanks falls down into the abyss! 😳 Unless y'all mean the "extra tanks?" Must be bc Woody said he put his loop back in his mouth. Gus I am so glad you're ok. How scary. No one is perfect like y'all always say. That's how we learn is thru our mistakes. Y'all should put a photo of the team in there along with Ed bc y'all created the habitats & explored new cave! Gus.... I don't think I've seen your official 1st cave exploration unless it was the series on the Mexican Cenote? That series was AMAZING too! Great job guys so proud of y'all! Awesome video. I'm not a diver but a total geek and love the amount of info you guys share. A lot of knowledge. And im sure to divers this is a goldmine of useful info. Gus love hearing your about your issue, no shame in talking about it and thats the way to go, we all learn from it and a next step is reached. Cheers guys, all the best.

It's so humbling to see how much work and effort goes into such explorations. And to see you guys (who are professionals!) so in awe of it is so inspiring. (And glad you are okay, Gus!) Much love from Germany!

Dude 😳 Gus you escaped the grim reaper bro 😳 You’ve learned a big lesson never assuming it’s ok. I have to agree being part of something like this is exiting that could be a reason. Glad you’re ok, awesome video and congrats to the team

I've noticed a few things with new gear or less used gear. Gus's using the Sidewinder mistaking the gas sides when you normally use the Spirit. Woody having issues with his new battery pack for his drysuit heater in the mine dive and getting caught on the surface exit and Roaring River. The adjustable d-ring allowing the bottle to slide down further. Most of these seem like they're not a big deal but when you're on an advanced cave dive in a completely new environment, can be life threatening with unnecessary task loading or causing problems at depth. Glad to see you both made it out safely. We've seen in your videos (Pearse Resurgence separation at 700ft) that things can go south in a matter of seconds. You guys are so good with examining your own mistakes and being humble though. Keep up the good work!

Hey Woody and Gus, Love your show and I'm grateful you're ok Gus! I'm saddened by the news about Eric and my thoughts are with his family and friends! Would you please post an episode detailing Gus's incident? There seem to be unanswered questions and much we all could learn from this? Specifically, what happened between 100' (where Gus is fine) and 160' (where Gus is too narced to bail out and turn the dive)? When you guys cross each other at 80'-100', was Gus's po2 at a reasonably normal level for this point in the dive? What was the o2 % of the deep gas? At some point before reaching 160', Gus states he's noticing his rapidly increasing po2; when did this happen and what prevented Gus from halting and evaluating as soon as he was aware of the unusually rapid rise in po2? Presumably narcosis. Are some divers aware when they are beginning to experience narcosis? Does narcosis happen gradually or is it something that sneaks up on you? Additionally, how did Gus know what his deco obligation was? How much deco did he do? Should he have breathed 100% o2 at the surface? I'm not yet a tech diver so please forgive me if some of my questions don't fit the situation. Also, I'm not trying to throw stones; I just want to learn as much as possible from the experience and anything Gus can recall would be helpful. Thanks and keep up the great work!
This LEGEND has dived almost 10x deeper than us!
