There are other stories where the one who jumps into the current in pitch black and survives meanwhile the people who wait drown. Both of them acted with fear and took a gamble. He was afraid of the possibility of the entire cave getting filled with water and she was afraid to jump into the current. You idiots would be talking about how he got balls and is a true survivor, if his girlfriend drowned while waiting and he ended up the only survivor by sheer luck. The fact that her girlfriend is the only survivor, doesn't make her any smarter. They were both idiots, if she insisted on not jumping into the current, he should have stayed with her because if he was right he is basically leaving her alone despite knowing she might drown. And she should have pressed harder if she REALLY REALLY didn't want him to jump. It sounds like they had an argument, and the dude got frustrated and went like "fine, do whatever you want," and basically decided to fuck off into the current.

Thank you for being respectful of the victims and survivor of the Nam Talu disaster. The last youtube video I watched on this disaster called their decision to go into the cave "stupid", which was very disheartening, not to mention disrespectful. John and Helena, the family that perished, and the little boy (as well as his mother) had only made the decision of trusting the guides, who were familiar with the cave and thus could be assumed to be trustworthy. If I had been in their places, I would have trusted the guides as well, and I think most people would have. I don't pretend to know why the guides began offering cave tours before monsoon season was properly over, but I assume there was some reason, such as incorrect weather forecasts or other reason to believe that it was safe.

We were only allowed to go to the open mouth of the cave as it was massive and only about 40 feet under. Being Floridian, we are a weak breed and detest cold water. The spring was about 62F. I was shivering for a good 10 minutes and couldnt concentrate at all, so I got out, laid in the sun and then put a dry suit on and finished the dive. That was water where some would consider really warm and I could barely keep track of what I was doing. It SHOULD be a lesson toward the cautionary... If you don't have REAL training for caving or cave exploration and rescue, the best thing to do is escape the water the best you can, and then SIT TIGHT... It does require a certain faith in society around you at large, and hoping for others to be skilled at what they do... BUT by and large, they ARE worthy of that faith and hope. EVEN we guys need to take that caution to heed.If he'd had training, he'd have known better, because you DO NOT EVER just go with the flow of invading flood-water in a flooding cave. There's ONE known entrance, and that's usually where the water is coming FROM, so you're only going to slide deeper into the aquifer with NO GUARANTEE that it ever has to come to the surface again... There are places where the surface water disappears, and over DECADES test after test has been tried to track wherever it "comes out" with no results at all. "Devil's Hole" in Nevada (USA) has shown evidence that it's connected directly through the aquifers to springs, caves, and systems in Mexico, over a THOUSAND miles away, without so much evidence that there's any other surface water adjoining... SO if you can POSSIBLY get to a reasonably safe spot during a cave flooding incident, especially if you're down to ONE source of light or less, STAY YOUR ASS THERE!!! That's THE correct answer. Easier on you starving to death or freezing to death than taking a beating while you fight horribly against current and only manage to drown VIOLENTLY... ;o)

Right? "We just have to follow the current". Which would be a great strategy except you'd have to swim AGAINST the current to get back to the entrance, not with it. Not to mention knowing that even if the current were going towards the exit, there's a decent chance it would just bash your head into a rock or you'd get pulled under or run into some displaced cobras that had gotten washed out of their hidey holes. Why are people creeping through caves where cobras are absolutely known to congregate anyway? While I do feel sorry for those people losing their lives and their families, sometimes it's hard to do so knowing they knew just how many dangers were involved and d3cided "screw it, I'd rather take a chance on getting washed away or bitten by venomous snakes and die that to not walk through this cave.

So in we went, it was insane fun, but half way in... water was pouring in and at one point you have to fully submerge in water, pull yourself along on a ceiling rope one at a time. I always find your stories informational and interesting. For instance, I learned to not enter caves, ever, either while diving or on land. I learned this from watching videos where others died, some even trained pros. Thats enough for me.There are for more interesting things for me to do on land than be entombed alive in a cave. Slowly watching myself breathing my last breaths and being unable to save myself. That's a horrible way to die.

The amount of people in these episodes who come to grief because they thought it was a good idea to try to force themselves through tiny spaces is astonishing. The lesson of the day is, stay out of caves. If for some reason you have a death wish & insist on going into them DON'T try to crawl through any hole or gap you can't easily & quickly get through.

What I've mostly learned from all of these caving videos is that if it has rained recently, if it is going to rain, if there has ever been a single droplet of rain in the entire natural history of that area, maybe just don't go caving there.

I've visited the cave in the third video. From what I can remember, at the the end of the show cave, there's a fenced off bit. I peered over the fence and there was a ladder going down into the abyss for experienced cavers. I've never seen anything so dark in all my life. It was like I was just peering down into nothingness. I could even feel that the atmosphere was so different as I looked into it. I can't imagine how it would feel being stuck in complete darkness like that.

The risk of human error (especially my own human error) is so great, my mind would simply forbid my body from doing anything this insanely dangerous and so prone to accidents. I don't care how many times I check and recheck my equipment and research all known environmental hazards, or any other possible hazards, my mind would still say "No. We are not gonna' do this. Get over it," and my arms and legs would be forced to concede. .....AND, I wanna' give a shout-out to Scary Interesting and thank them deeply for continuing to post such excellent content. Why the hell would you think that climbing through narrow passages, through freezing water only to find out that suddenly your stuck in a hopeless position with no way out, fun? Not only that. Now all those who come to try and rescue you are now putting their lives at risk. Worrying their love ones. All for what? To say that you crawled squeezed and froze your way through a hole in the ground that countless others had already been there and done that just so you can came out the other end, alive! If you're exploring a cave system for scientific purposes then I can understand the appeal. But to risk your life and maybe those that might have to come to rescue you then take up base jumping or something. At least that way in most cases your only risking your life.

I own a couple of small caves, at a very private undisclosed location, in a karst region. I've been back into them, the longer one extending back a few hundred feet, through a very short wet squeeze, to a large vertical room that must almost reach the surface. We fear something like this, and that is why the cave locations will remain undisclosed.

If he survive, he could run out and ask for help to get her out quicker. If he did not survive, she still has a chance. Either way, he might was only thinking about her survival.
