The stories behind the making of this television series were sometimes as dramatic as the events that were being portrayed. It came the closest to my losing my life of all the adventure films that I made.

From a viewer that knows nothing about cave diving: Your video strikes me as a personal, passionate, all-in project that was doomed from the beginning. Unswayed, you trudged on with determined support behind you, passing obstacle after obstacle with resilience despite the friction originating from the incoming clueless top dogs. What a story to tell to the appropriate audience who will appreciate your thankless efforts. Bravo!

Hi Sid, I'd just started caving the year before when I saw hidden depths with my uni housemates who were all cavers too. We recorded it at the time and replayed it on numerous occasions to all our caving friends. In my opinion it's still the best caving documentary ever made. And the fact you made it before Go-pros and LED lights makes it even more remarkable. Even today if I comment on a KZbin caving diving video I'll often add a link to it. So thanks for all your caving films (and the others). They were inspirational. It's a shame you weren't still making caving films at the time of the Thai cave rescue. I had a beer with Rick Stanton (he lives about a mile from me) and some of our friends two weeks after he got back when he filled us in on all the stuff that didn't get into the media at the time. Most of it's in his book 'Aquanaut' if you've read it. One of my favourite stories in his book is how our mutual friend Dan drove Rick to the airport whilst dressed in his Morris dancing outfit and the looks they got!

Great background to the series. I was just beginning my own cave diving career when you were filming this and was conscripted as an extra for a shot of some cavers entering Swildon's Hole the day after I'd done a trip to Sump 12...

I’m so glad I’ve still got episodes to watch… I’m like saving them :) Even my big cat tiger, is interested, and he is very picky. He likes Wagner, so I guess the drama of cave-diving thrills him 🐯 like eating me out of the house… 5-6 kilos every day.
