How to clean your convertible roof seals on your VW Eos

The seals on your cabin and boot area of your convertible rood are crucial and often get overlooked when cleaning and caring for your cherished cabriolet.
The roof & boot seals play a fundamental part of keeping your convertible water tight. A seal cannot do its job properly if the 2 contact surfaces are not clean and there is a build-up of dirt and debris.
We would recommend that your convertible roof seals are inspected regularly when cleaning the outside of your vehicle and if a build-up is noticed then it is important to address this before it becomes and problem and you notice water inside the vehicle.
Cleaning and treating the rubber seals with a lubricant called Krytox is an essential part of the cabriolet roof system’s maintenance and depending on where the vehicle is parked, we would recommend an annual clean and treatment of the roof and boot seals.

Is there a specific type of Krytox that should be used in order to help keep things lubricated? Estimated how often should the treatment be completed, and roughly how much product will you use? Stuff is expensive..!

HI Brendan - It is really important to make sure your seals are super clean and dry before the solution is applied. We get our from Mercedes - part number A0009893660 - it is used sparingly and you will not use a whole pot in one go (about £40) - I would say on average the pot will last about 3 full applications to the vehicle. 7.00 on amazon/Walmart, for a few years worth, fyi. 3M & others make it. Just use the most basic oil in the tube, but if it's an 08 or newer, see my other post above.

This problem (Leaks) was solved in 2008. It's only a problem in 2006, it's very first year (And we all know never to buy a first year new model!) & 2007. The seals were completely redesigned & different types of rubber was used from 08 till its final year, 2016. Other than keeping clean there is no longer the need to use KRYTOX on the seals, as they will never shrink, tear or rot. My 2011 is proof of this-not 1 leak in 11 years, no Krytox. (EDIT: If you have a lak or laks in 2008 & newer EOS' then the only thing it can be are clogs, especially if you live around a lot of trees or at work (Unless there's a tear somewhere but that would be a manufacturing or owner mistake).

@@MegaRooikat There are multiple drain "Tracks" that are hidden. Open both doors & look for where the seal "meets" That's 1 drain track/hole that is rubber & goes to the bottom of the car. Make sure they are not clogged! Also, on KZbin type in "Clearing VW EOS seals." Finally, after everything is clear & clean, including the same type of tracks along the trunk rubber seals, apply a thin layer of "Krytox," which you can buy on amazon & Walmart. Much cheaper & more product than any Dealer! TIP: If it's rubber follow it everywhere it goes & look for splits, which if not damage are most likely drain holes. I haven't had even 1 drop of leakage in 9 years or ever.
