Cayuga ducks came from England a very long time ago. They were believed to have gone extinct until some were found near Cayuga, and while they are still rare, they are coming back.

This duck is either very patient or scared sh*tless, lol -- and I think he was cursing you out as soon as you let him go. I'm glad they've got that iridescent coloring in their feathers and that the hens get white mottling, otherwise Hershey might lose his distinction. But he's still got the most goth duck cred with his dark feathers plus dark beak. I hope they work out for you! (And I see you're still being stalked by chickens -- you'll never lack for groupies as long as chickens are greedy jerks.)

I didn't know about the different origin, Ryan. They are pretty and good layers. Did you clip their wings?

I think yours might have some barnyard mix mine are blacker and more erodessent not any white spots 🤔

Their beak should be black as well. Also the maile should also have black beaks. cayuga males will have the curl on their back tail as the one you are holding

as cayuga get older, they lose coloration - as i've mentioned multiple times to others. These are older ducks - 5+ yrs old.

Mine seem to be too fat to fly, but being a native bird, i assume if they were less fat they’d fly better.
