For me the process of realizing that I was depressed was not a single moment, but rather, a years-long journey that involved multiple unsuccessful attempts at therapy before I finally had a major breakthrough in discovering cognitive behavioral therapy.
Knowing you are depressed is one thing, but I think the true liberation comes when you realize that a lot of the apparent struggles in your life are due to negative thoughts that are distorted by your depression, and do not reflect reality.
When I finally realized this and saw the full extend of this, it was immensely liberating, and it laid the foundation for me overcoming my depression and getting into a much happier and more empowering mental space.
I hope that by sharing this story I can help others who may be struggling with similar things!
