I also learned something else. The full-flow cover, at least for the 30mm, is a bit thicker which contacts the tin cover behind the pulley and pushes it into contact with my aluminum degree pulley. I had to cut away some of the tin enough for some clearance.

Thanks, the good news is that it functions perfectly but of course the pressure relief spring can have an effect on the outcome. Its specification is 6.8-8.4 pounds when compressed to a height of .795". So I installed a spring with 7.3 lbs to be approximately mid specification and the result was amazing. After warmup the idle oil pressure never goes below about 15 psi and revved to about 2500 the pressure is consistently around 50 psi. This specification in the manual has an error in the metric to English conversion for both spring height and force. So I used the metric and converted it using a reliable source. @@VitosFix

When did you pull out the studs for the oil pump cover? One minute you were ripping gaskets, putting them over the studs. The next you are tightening Allen headed bolts. I know it’s kind of irrelevant, but you could have mentioned it. A bit confusing for a moment.

I just purchased an EMPI full flow 96 plate oil cooler kit that came with pretty much nothing for instructions. From what I’ve learned, well I don’t like the BS needed to instal it. Oil return BS. Would this be a better idea? Or at least work better with the kit.?

@@VitosFix what’s easiest way to find out what cam I have?
@VitosFix3 жыл бұрын
So, I think it would be fine, but I would go with the below link. I would also call CB Performance and ask them about it. The 30 should be better though.. push more oil pressure. For me, the maxi 26 oil pressure could get lower at idle after everything heated up. www.cbperformance.com/product-p/maxi30early.htm

As far as the style/year cam (‘70 and below, verses ‘71 and up), take a look at the below link and go to the lower side of the page. Shows 3 pictures. For measurements and everything, you would need to take the block apart and measure it with a digital caliper to know that. There are so many different cams, after market cams, sizes, etc. Some are stamped with some information (aftermarket), some aren’t. www.cbperformance.com/product-p/maxi30early.htm

i see you are using an aftermarket camshaft on your engine, did you grind off the backside of the pump so it would not hit the cam bolts?
@VitosFix4 жыл бұрын
For this one, I didn’t have to. Plenty of clearance. Not much bigger then the stock pump. Normally the bigger ones come further out.

did you have to put a plug in the back of the pump? I just got an EMPI one and it also has a hole for oil to go back into the case.
@VitosFix4 жыл бұрын
I believe you’re talking about the plug to make it full flow? If so, I didn’t use the plug (or any plug). This setup pushes the oil to the aftermarket filter, and back into the pump to flow the normal route. I’ve had no issues with oil flow. If you’re wanting a higher performance engine though, definitely do full flow.

I’ve just installed one of these. When I ran the engine, It pressurised my filter, and pushed oil out of the filter seal. Any ideas why? Thx

@@adrianbloomfield4933 Are you using 20W/50? I've heard that higher weight oils will make the oil pressure go too high. I use 10/30 with high zinc. (amsoil z-rod)

@@edweigman9683 Hi Ed. Yes I am. I’ll give the lighter oil a go. Engines out at the mo, but will let you know. Thx 👍
@VitosFix3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. Try a lower weight. I’m using 15-40. Also, make sure the oil filter is tight enough as well, but not too tight. Normally you seat it, then give it another 1/2 to full turn. Some filters have slightly different instructions.

What size engine did you do this on? I have a 1776 and the case seems to already be tapped for a full flow return inlet and wanted to full flow it out the pump cover and into the case to the left using a maxipump, but I found out if the case side of the oil port inside the pump recess, where the oil used to flow, the pump has to be blocked and the case needs to be plugged, or oil can leak back into the case causing low pressure at hot idle. I can't just plug the pump or use a maxi pump and leave the case opened. So I might do it this way, did your oil psi go up?
@VitosFix3 жыл бұрын
www.cbperformance.com/product-p/maxi30ffearly.htm Mine is a 1776cc, 1963 block. So you’re saying that the block already has a tap on the outside of the block? (Left of the oil pump) like the link below? bobhooversblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/full-flow-oil-filtration.html?m=1 If so, you have two options. You use the pump that’s in the CB Performance link at the top, and run the return line into the block. Or, you plug the tap that’s on the block, and use the pump that I installed. My setup, the PSI isn’t bad. It’s in the 60s for PSI when I first start it up, but when it warms up it’s in the 20s. Unfortunately, I didn’t try it out and see the PSI prior to putting this particular pump in. But it runs great. I don’t get crazy driving it, but I haven’t had any issues with it even when it goes up to 5-5.5k RPMs. Let me know is your have any other questions!
@nickel10083 жыл бұрын
@@VitosFix yeah, my case is tapped to the left of the pump, but it is already plugged, but I think I could use it if I wanted, but I saw some people say when you full flow, and don't plug both the pump and case inside where the pump slides in, hot idle psi can be low because the oil is going into the case instead of thru all the galleys and cooler, so I think I'll leave the left plug there and use the same pump you're running, I think I'll call mark at CB and see what he says too. Thanks for the reply!
@VitosFix3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Talk to them. Dave (CB) is really awesome as well. If the other guy isn’t around. I’ve always heard though, that running it the other way (not like I did) is better. But that wasn’t something I wanted to do after having everything together. It’s really hard to make sure your get all the metal shavings out of the oil galley. Let me know how it works for you!
