Lovely weather for the start of the trip (you didn’t bring the rain from the UK with you). Seems like you have the bike tuned for the trip with the changes you made. The windscreen extender and road tires will mean you’ll feel less tired at the end of the day. It’s surprising what 8-10 hours of wind buffeting and vibration will do to the body, especially as one ages (speaking for myself). Looking forward to episode 3. Cheers, Jim

For people who don’t know the 500X, when the fuel ‘reserve’ light starts flashing you still have about 100 miles of range left. 🙂

Not 100 miles, but 100km. It has 3L in reserve, you have to average 3L/100km. But dont let stay in the reserve too much time, it may have some dirty in the botton and the pump could overheat.
@nomanonroad Жыл бұрын
Eh.. 150 miles? Don't think so. Riding on French motorway i miscalculated on last trip.. And almost got stranded. It consumes like close to 5 liter /100 km at 120-125km/h. Don't calculate more than 70-80km on reserve if you on motorway.

Brother change Your sprocket to 16t immediately. It’s completely different bike now. I have 2022 model with few mods but 16t sprocket made it FASTER, and ride with lower rpms (1 gear more like). This bike uses lower/mid rpm so You would get a lot more torque in riding rpms. Lower fuel consumption is something great too. Also great tip for cold intake is to take off Your snorkel from air filter (2 screws). Good luck 👍

Thanks for the information and recommendation but I'm back in the UK now after my Norway trip and having ridden 27k Km over the last 18 months with standard gearing I'm happy with the current gearing. If I do feel the need for speed I jump on my Street Triple 😉 Nick
@jerronimo6874 Жыл бұрын
@@bikingtravels nice, I did only 17k km. It would be faster but also You will got lower RPMs at highways because 6k rpms at 120-130kmh was killing me. Since I did that change now I’m driving more stable with less stressing my ears. Stock gearing was made just for A2 standards. Fuel map was made for 16t sprocket 😄 so You will have more torque all the time. Drive safe!

My recommendation for anybody who plans on doing a lot of their touring on motorways is get a diesel hatchback. They are not the place to enjoy touring on two wheels and contrary to popular belief there are few places where there is no viable, better alternative. Nathanthepostman explained the logistics very well on his Vogue 300 2000 mile review he posted yesterday. I’ve had my 500X for almost two years now and it’s never been on a motorway yet my annual mileage is twice what I did during the nine years I owned a ST1300 Pan European.
@bikingtravels Жыл бұрын
Thanks David, lack of observation on the fuel situation caught me out, it was one of the very few times I'd ever bought fuel on a motorway. I agree there are alternatives to motorways which in the scheme of things are pretty recent but they do have there uses. Nick
@davidmatthews3093 Жыл бұрын
@@bikingtravelsI find it odd that the 500X does not give you an indication of the range left when the light starts flashing. Knowing how far you’ve travelled and how much fuel you’ve used since the light started flashing is something but it gives me a bit of range anxiety at times. Having said that I’ve regularly managed 500km between fill-ups which is a fantastic range for any bike.
