CB750 Oil Pressure Gauge Install And Oil Filter Inspection! In this video I install a very nice looking oil pressure gauge on my barn find CB750. I had a leaking oil galley cap oring and that's all the excuse I needed to buy a gauge kit as I like the idea of knowing what type of pressure this engine generates.
This is part of the ongoing revival of this bike after I got it running. I also cut the oil filter apart to do close inspection and look for any worrying contaminants as I put more miles on this bike and cycle the engine.

I've been riding my '74 CB750 for about 17 years now (it's the favorite of five bikes I own) and I really enjoy watching you work on yours. Also, I've been riding bikes for about 54 years and always do my own maintenance. I started using aluminum foil to keep the pipe free of oil during changes many years ago. Until I watched your videos, I wasn't aware anyone else out there was doing that. I guess great minds do think alike. LOL Anyway, I really enjoy watching your channel.

Love the Rotella usage. I use it for my older bikes. Newer bikes get synthetic because that's what they came with. Not picky about brand. "Run what you like," indeed! It's oil. You're not running in MotoGP. It's more important that you change it regularly than which specific brand.

Agreed 100%. You must also consider the quality of oil being made when this bike was new. Basic old Rotella is miles ahead still

Hi, really enjoy your video’s you do terrific work 👍, there’s something bugging me regarding the geometry on that monoshock set up though, I could well be wrong here but I think it’s self bracing and that is stopping the movement, not the high spring rate, 🤔, like I say I could well be wrong but did you try moving the swing arm with everything except the shock fitted?, ie support the bike on a centre Jack remove the shock and see that the swing arm can move with the hoop/brace etc fitted?, apologies up front if I’m wrong 👍🙂

I love your CB750 series and I hope to buy one for myself but they are so rare where I live. I wonder if it's possible to add some kind of splitter there and add temperature gauge. I just love to know as much as I can about my machine. Also I see that you're not using any torque wrench do you find them unnecessary? I bought one just for a peace of mind that everything is like in the manual.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
Glad you like the series and thank you! I believe temperature gauges are available for the oil tank actually. Harley Sportsters have a dry sump like these and an available accessory is an oil temp gauge that fits into the fill hole in the tank. As far as torque wrenches I have a few and just picked up a really nice 20-220 in/lb unit for engine work. Outside of working on specific internal and external engine fasteners I generally do feel I need to use one as I use common sense and feel to know when something is too lose, just right, or too tight. I have also referenced my manuals so much that sometimes I simply remember about what the number should be and can get very close just by feel. What I cant show in the video is how I can feel the aluminum sealing washer on the oil sump bolt beginning to compress when I reach the desired torque. I cant show how the information my arm is gathering from how a bolt feels when it stretches. Just lots and lots of experience with torque wrenches, a manufacturing background with hardware as well as castings, and just common sense to know that a 6mm bolt is not going to be as tight as a 10mm bolt.

Well this bike has a more cloudy history as far as engine health so for me it was a fun thing to add for sake of science. Most bikes have a simple light that glows when there is no pressure but that doest tell me what I want to know. I wanted to know idle pressure and revving to pair with other data for the bike. I can also see how the pressure changes with temperature. Not necessary but something I wanted for this bike

Hi men, excelente video. I have a question for you. I am installing on my Yamaha FZ6, (Inline 4 cylinder engine 600cc) a oil pressure switch because the bike has is a oil level, and i am more confortable with oil pressure indication, but i dont have a oil pressure gauge to see what is the aceptable nominal idle oil pressure so i can put a switch acordinly. Do you think that being so similar bikes, maybe i can count with the same 30-35 PSI at idle? considering my workshop manual says it should have 34.1PSi at 6600rpm. so considering that iun your video, your gauga shows a little more than 60psi at some higher rpm than idle and then it lower about half.. i think its safe to see i can count on about 20 PSI at least at idle, i am right? thanks!!
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
I would never assume two very different engines would have identical pressures. There are many variables that go into this. Things like bearing clearance, oil viscosity, bearing types, etc will all have a different effect. Your shop manual has the correct info here as that is specific to your bike.

When I get an old bike going I will change the oil after just a small amount of run time. Maybe 100 miles at first, then at 1000 miles.

Turbo.

If you take care of her and I know you would, you could add up to 100k or more to it than just re-ring her and add 50k or more! I put 75k on mine with a 915cc kit in her. These things are built like a tank, way over engineered!! I have a friend with one that sat for 3 yrs. under water in a river. After the cops retrieved her, he just flushed the eng. and carbs x3 times and he's got 87k on her now and running strong. HONDA'S!!! Fuel tanks???? well that's a diff. story!!! LOL

Nice! Did the same to mine a few months ago. Good to know about the idle psi range once warm. To be honest, my ‘75 CB750F has a rather unknown past and I’m frankly not an expert on it (although I’m trying to learn) and was wondering if the psi I was seeing was normal or not. Video of mine here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKGXl6aQotF9r5I

Well in order to keep the video length in check as well as save on text I leave out the "R." It saves a syllable each time and again cuts down on letter usage. Audience retention is very important and they demand I keep it as short as possible. 😉
